13 year old boy gives a new lease of life to two young girls

Bengaluru, July 20, 2018: Two lives have been saved today as they undergo transplant at Narayana Health City, Hosur Road. The donor, a 13 year old boy gave a new lease of life to an 11 year old girl as well as 9 year old girl.

The 13 year old donor who hails from Karnataka was admitted at Sparsh Hospital, Yeshwantpur following an accident at Kunigal on 13th July 2018. He was declared brain dead yesterday and the family consented to donate their son’s organs. 

Hailing from Assam, the 11 year old recipient is a heart failure patient and was being treated at Narayana Health City. As her condition was not improving, she was advised to undergo a heart transplant. The other recipient who is a 9 year old girl was being treated for liver failure at Narayana Health City during which she was also advised to undergo a liver transplant.

The heart and the liver were retrieved by a team of doctors and were transported from Sparsh Hospital, Yeshwantpur to Narayana Health City, Hosur Road with the help of a green corridor. The distance of 64 kms was covered in a span of 44 minutes.

Appreciating the support offered by the Traffic Police Department, Joseph Pasangha, COO, Narayana Health City, said, “We would like to thank the entire team of Bangalore Traffic police for their continuous support in organizing Green Corridor every time a live organ is transported and also thankful to the donor family who came forward to donate the organs.”

Both the heart and liver transplants were performed by a team of expert surgeons from Narayana Health City today.
