Kolkata, Jan 02, 2015 – By launching a new department of gastro sciences and increasing the capacity of the cancer treatment facility, Apollo Gleneagles Hospitals plans to add 170 more beds this year.

According to Apollo Hospitals Group (eastern region) CEO Rupali Basu, the authorities are planning to expand the present capacity with a new institute of gastro sciences providing specialised services and having a capacity of 120 beds.

They will also add 50 beds to the cancer hospital which has an existing capacity of 100 beds.

With the addition of 170 beds this year, Apollo will thus become a 780-bed multi-speciality tertiary care hospital.

Basu said they would focus more on education and research in the new year to pioneer new healthcare practices and technology in the region.
They have already started construction of a Rs 400- crore medical college and hospital with a capacity of 1,000 beds at a 14-acre plot at Batanagar, near Kolkata.
With the launch of mobile app ‘Happ’ Apollo is looking at strengthening telemedicine not only in eastern India but also in the eastern part of the world in countries such as Bangladesh, Myanmar, Nepal and Bhutan, Basu said. PTI
