Chennai, March 19, 2021: Apollo Hospitals, Chennai was honoured to welcome Lord Ahmad of Wimbledon, the Minister for South Asia and the Commonwealth, Foreign Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) on his visit to the healthcare institution today. He was received by Dr. Prathap C Reddy, Chairman and Ms. Preetha Reddy, Vice Chairperson of the Apollo Hospitals Group who took him around the world-class medical facilities at Apollo Hospitals. Lord Ahmad was appreciative of the advanced medical technology that Apollo Hospitals had brought to India.

Lord Ahmad of Wimbledon, Minister for South Asia and the Commonwealth, FCDO said, “The UK and India are close partners in healthcare and the fight against COVID. It is great to meet Dr. Prathap C Reddy who is a big investor in the UK. It was enlightening to discuss how we can strengthen our health partnership and look for more opportunities.”

Dr. Prathap C Reddy, Chairman, Apollo Hospitals group said, “The subject of health is now a global priority for every nation and in the interests of humanity at large. As a pioneering healthcare organization, the entire Apollo Hospitals family is resolute in its determination to participate and champion initiatives that strengthen the healthcare ecosystem in India and also to serve patients around the world. We have been working closely with the United Kingdom and look forward to boosting our relationship in future.”

The Apollo Hospitals group is involved in physical infrastructure projects in UK and India while working on initiatives to support NHS in workforce development. The group also has a joint AI Project with Behold.AI, a UK AI radiology company for rapid COVID-19 diagnosis using AI-based chest X-ray technology

Ms. Preetha Reddy, Vice Chairperson, Apollo Hospitals group said, “I would like to reaffirm the Apollo family’s keenness to partner and support medical education programmes in partnership with the UK, as skilled talent would be the most powerful weapon in coping with medical crises of the future and nurturing a happier tomorrow for all.”

A principal endeavour has been Apollo Education UK’s (AEUK) partnership with the University of Buckingham. In January this year, the Apollo Buckingham Health Science Campus (ABHSC) introduced its inaugural programme. ABHSC, located at the Crewe campus of the University of Buckingham, is the first dedicated health science campus in UK and represents lead investments of about 6 mn GBP proposed by AEUK for a Medical School and Allied Health Science campus. Spread over 40 acres with over 600,000 sqft built up, the campus is emblematic of its purpose to build a taskforce with capabilities to serve people all over the world. Despite the challenges of the pandemic, the UG medicine and Bioscience Pre-med courses have commenced at full capacity.
