Columbia Asia Referral Hospital Yeshwanthpur Organizes health awareness talk on Breastfeeding and Child Care

New Delhi, September 04, 2019: In a bid to commemorate the importance of breast feeding and spread an awareness on its immense benefits, Columbia Asia Referral Hospital Yeshwanthpur organized a health talk on breastfeeding and child care.

The health talk was delivered on topics like ‘Do’s & Don’ts for Child Care’ by Dr. Shalini, Consultant – Paediatrics, ‘Post – Delivery complications’ by Dr. Ambuja Govindaraj, Consultant’s – OBG, ‘Post Delivery – Diet and Weight Reduction’ by Ms. Pavithra, ‘Dietician Postural Correction and Back to Shape’ by Mr Bala Sundaram N – Head Physiotherapy, ‘Misconception about Breast Feeding’ by Dr. Praveen, Consultant – Paediatrics and ‘Recognizing Medical Emergency, Emergencies in Paediatrics and How to Know it’s an Emergency’ by Dr. Firoz Ahmad H Torgal, Consultant – Emergency Medicine, Columbia Asia Referral Hospital Yeshwanthpur. Around 50 new mothers and their families were part of the talk which helped them in understanding the importance of breastfeeding.

Breastfeeding has a vital role to play in ensuring the growth, development and survival of children around the world, and is the substance of lifelong good health for both babies and mothers. The event is a humble effort by the hospital to spread more word on the significance and aids of breast feeding.

“We are delighted to witness huge participation from the parents, patients and their immediate family members. The new-born should be breastfed within an hour of delivery, when the baby is still alert. It is important because baby sucking increases milk production and establishes bonding between the mother and the baby.  It improves the health, wellbeing and survival of women and child. It serves as a child’s first immunization, thus providing protection from common diseases like diarrhoea and pneumonia. It also lowers the baby’s risk of having asthma or other allergies said Dr. Ambuja Govindraj, Consultant Gynaecologist, Columbia Asia Referral Hospital Yeshwanthpur.
