HCG The Specialist in Cancer Centre launches Department of Translational Medicine & Cancer Prevention Clinics

Bengaluru, March 02, 2019: HCG The Specialist in Cancer Care today launched its department of Translational Medicine & Cancer Prevention Clinics. In its fight against cancer, this move of HCG will ensure that the right treatment is provided to those who seek it and also spread awareness about the various technologies and expertise available to win over cancer.

Cancer prevention clinics inside a comprehensive cancer hospital with built-in expertise is the best bet when it comes to tackling cancer.  In low and medium income countries, about 50-70% of cancers are attributed to lifestyle choices, which includes consumption of tobacco and smoking. It has been established that by screening, early detection and lifestyle modification, the numbers can be reduced drastically. Dr. Nalini Rao, Radiation Oncologist, said, “A patient’s overall health is the responsibility of doctors and not just treating them. Promoting good health is of utmost importance. With this clinic, we hope to spread awareness to the patients, friends and family on the importance of screening and early detection. We want to not only give medical support to those seeking it, but also provide customised health profiling with genetic counselling and screening on winning over cancer.”

Translational medicine is a discipline in biomedical research that aims to expedite the discovery of new diagnostic treatments by using a multi-disciplinary ‘bench to bedside’ approach. One of the most important advantages of this is immediate patient benefit, which will ensure faster diagnosis and treatment. Dr. Radheshyam Naik, Medical Oncologistand the front runner of the department of translational medicine said, “The multi-disciplinary approach would ensure that majority of the standard therapies are out of the way so that the patient only receives the exponential treatment. This department would also ensure that clinical trials are made available and with a combination of clinical, pathological, genomics and radiological data, it would be easier for the doctors to arrive at a conclusion that would benefit the patient immensely.”
