Health Dept plans app to improve service

Mangalore, October 15, 2014 – Did you notice the absence of doctors and facilities in government hospitals in Karnataka? Take a picture of that on your mobile and upload it on Karnataka Health Department’s app ‘Healthizen’. The Department will take steps to rectify such issues.

The Karnataka Health Department’s app will help citizens upload their complaints and suggestions on primary health centres, and taluk and district hospitals.

In an informal chat with presspersons on the sidelines of a review meeting in Mangalore on Wednesday, Health Minister UT Khader said the government would launch ‘Healthizen’, the Android-based app, soon.

Stating that it is not a complaint box, Khader said, ‘Healthizen’ is a system to rectify things. The images sent on this app will have the GPS coordinates of the area concerned. It will help the authorities concerned to track and rectify the problem.

Khader said that information technology (IT) will also be used to network all levels of government hospitals in the State.

With this, the medical records of a particular patient will be made available to the doctors in any government hospital in the State. He said his intention is to organise health records of the patient in such a manner that it is available for doctors in any government hospital in the State.

The government has already set up such a network under the mother-child tracking system. The proposed networking plan will help provide medical records of other patients also, he said. Business Line
