The web episode was streamed live on 23rd September and featured industry experts who threw light on the several aspects of the Medical Devices Rule. The new Medical Devices Rule is expected to change the manufacturing, trading, and selling scenario in the dental industry completely. The special episode aimed to decode the law, and its effects on traders, manufacturers, innovators, or practitioners.

The special episode had Mr Vivek Mangalwedhekar, an expert in the Medical Devices Rule as the guest speaker who was joined by Mr Bhushan Pitkar – Director, Precima Technologies Pvt Ltd., representing the manufacturers; Dr Vivek Patni, Consulting Orthodontist & innovator, representing the dentists and Mr Jignesh Sheth – Director, Bombay Dental & Surgical Pvt Ltd., representing the traders. The episode encompassed all the key points on the topic including Understanding Medical Devices Rule and its implications on manufacturing, trading and dental practice.

As with anything new, the new Medical Devices Rule is creating confusion and industry players are seeking clarity. The experts on the episode clarified that the aim of the law is to regulate the market and help stabilize the prices of standard goods. The experts also informed manufacturers of high-quality products about the market seeing a positive trend with the need for standardized processes which will bring Indian products at par with CE and USFDA requirements.

For importers and dealers, the experts were of the opinion that the new rule will create an organized market with the customer receiving value for price. More importantly, from dentists’ perspective, the new rule will allow only registered doctors to purchase materials which will act as a deterrent to quackery and assure dentists that they get what they pay for. For the benefit of dentists who may have missed out, the session is available across ICPA’s various social media platforms, including YouTubeFacebook and LinkedIn.

ICPA Clinical Series‘ is an initiative to address specific clinical challenges dentists face in their everyday practice. Themed ‘Each Episode-One Clinical Challenge’, the series is moderated by ICPA’s Head of Research & Innovations – Dr Rajeev Chitguppi. Each session in the series has a guest speaker chosen from specialists from various domains of dentistry.
