ABLE Invites Online Entries from Innovators to Award the Best Biotech Innovations of the...

Bangalore, Karnataka, India, Friday, December 21, 2012 -- (Business Wire India) -- The Executive Council of the Association of Biotechnology Led Enterprises (ABLE), the apex body of the biotech sector in India announced that entries for its prestigious biotech (BT) innovation awards will be accepted till January 15th, 2013 from Indian as well as global biotech innovators. The finalists for the best BT Innovations will be shortlisted in February and the winners will be awarded at ABLE's Tenth Anniversary planned for March 11 in New Delhi.

India was rated 47th in its biotech Innovation abilities in an International survey earlier this year following which ABLE India planned and created a platform to recognize and award the best work by biotech professionals from India as well globally to instill the significance of biotech innovations by institutionalizing 'Best Biotech Innovations of the 21st Century (2001 - 2012)'. Entries in 15 categories for biotech innovations are being invited and the best innovations will be shortlisted based on various parameters. A Jury Panel comprising of national and International experts will select the Awardees.

Receive USD 4 Million Award from The Wellcome Trust for Development and Clinical Trials Hyderabad, India, June 18, 2012: Bharat Biotech and The University of Maryland Center for  Vaccine Development (“CVD”) announced today a significant milestone achievement– receiving a USD  4 Million Strategic Translation Award from The Wellcome Trust for clinical development of a new  conjugate vaccine including initial clinical trials beginning in three years to prevent the potentially  lethal infectious disease caused by invasive non-typhoidal Salmonella (NTS).   NTS have emerged as an important cause of invasive bloodstream infection in sub-Saharan Africa,  among young children with malaria and malnutrition, and among adults with HIV. Strains of nontyphoidal Salmonella (“NTS”) that can cause systemic disease such as meningitis or sepsis are  particularly common in sub-Saharan Africa; approximately 20 to 30% of children with such invasive  NTS infections die.
