ABLE Invites Online Entries from Innovators to Award the Best Biotech Innovations of the...

Bangalore, Karnataka, India, Friday, December 21, 2012 -- (Business Wire India) -- The Executive Council of the Association of Biotechnology Led Enterprises (ABLE), the apex body of the biotech sector in India announced that entries for its prestigious biotech (BT) innovation awards will be accepted till January 15th, 2013 from Indian as well as global biotech innovators. The finalists for the best BT Innovations will be shortlisted in February and the winners will be awarded at ABLE's Tenth Anniversary planned for March 11 in New Delhi.

India was rated 47th in its biotech Innovation abilities in an International survey earlier this year following which ABLE India planned and created a platform to recognize and award the best work by biotech professionals from India as well globally to instill the significance of biotech innovations by institutionalizing 'Best Biotech Innovations of the 21st Century (2001 - 2012)'. Entries in 15 categories for biotech innovations are being invited and the best innovations will be shortlisted based on various parameters. A Jury Panel comprising of national and International experts will select the Awardees.

Berlin, January 3, 2013 – Bayer HealthCare Pharmaceuticals and Onyx Pharmaceuticals, Inc. today announced that a Phase III trial of Nexavar® (sorafenib) tablets in patients with locally advanced or metastatic radioactive iodine (RAI)-refractory differentiated thyroid cancer has met its primary endpoint of a statistically significant improvement in progression-free survival. The study, called DECISION, evaluated the efficacy and safety of Nexavar compared to placebo. The safety and tolerability were generally consistent with the known profile of Nexavar. Detailed efficacy and safety analysis from this study are expected to be presented at an upcoming medical meeting. Effective treatment options are urgently needed for patients with RAI-refractory differentiated thyroid cancer,” said Dimitris Voliotis, MD, Vice President, Global Clinical Development Oncology, Bayer HealthCare. “We are pleased that the results of this study demonstrate that Nexavar may provide a treatment option for these patients.
