Intertek approved as India’s first Certification Body for the ICMED scheme (Indian Certification for Medical Devices)

New Delhi, July 06, 2016: Intertek, a leading Total Quality Assurance provider to industries worldwide, today announced another significant milestone by being approved as India’s first certification body for the ICMED scheme (Indian Certification for Medical Devices). This quality certification scheme for medical devices is an initiative by the Association of Indian Medical Device Industry (AIMED) in collaboration with the Quality Council of India (QCI) and the National Accreditation Board for Certification Bodies (NABCB) in quality certification for medical devices in the country.

Through the introduction of this quality certification scheme, the associations intend to enhance patient safety, and increase consumer protection along with providing much needed product credentials to manufacturers to instil confidence among buyers. The scheme is also intended to significantly eliminate trading of sub-standard products or devices where supply chains are unknown, a widespread and injurious occurrence in the Indian market.

Mr. Sandeep Vig, Director of Business Assurance and Electrical for Intertek India said, “We are extremely thankful to AIMED, QCI and NABCB for providing us with an opportunity to showcase our expertise in quality testing for the medical device industry. With this accreditation, we will aim to reduce the substantial cost and time for Indian companies to obtain globally accepted quality certification and thus eliminate the malpractice of sub-standard or fraudulent certification and quality audits.”

“QCI is initiating a number of voluntary certification schemes to facilitate industry and demonstrate compliance to the best global standards of which ICMED is one of them. NABCB is committed to providing world class accreditation services in support of these schemes and having one of the most well-known certification bodies approved under the ICMED scheme adds value to the Scheme.” said Anil Jauhri, CEO, NABCB.

Intertek’s full suite of medical quality and compliance solutions include: Regulatory Requirements for Medical Equipment, Medical Product Testing Solutions and Medical Management Systems Certification & Auditing.
