On World Grandparents Day, Manipal hospitals, Dwarka conducts health talk for elderly patients

New Delhi, September 10, 2021: On the occasion of World Grandparents Day, HCMCT Manipal Hospital, Dwarka, multi-specialty facility- conducted a session on joint pain management for around 30 elderly people through a Health Talk. The session was conducted by Dr Rajeev Verma, Head of Orthopaedics & Joint Replacement, who shared tips and insights on joint pain management followed by a yoga session under the guidance of a professional Yoga instructor. HCMCT Manipal Hospitals, Dwarka will also be providing free Ortho consultation to elderly people.

The COVID-19 Pandemic reshaped our lives in unthinkable ways. It is also an occasion for children and young to bond with the grandparents and ensure they get timely access to treatment and care more than ever before.

Adding to this, Dr Rajeev Verma, HOD And Consultant – Joint Replacement And Orthopaedics, said, “As we all know we celebrate Grandparents Day on 12th of September every year. All of us have special place for our grandparents in our heart. When we were growing up our grandparents taught us to walk, how to ride a bike and use to take us to a park or a garden. But when the grandparents start getting joint pains, it’s our time to take care of them. We as the grand kids should try to hand hold them and take them for a walk or exercise to keep their joints moving and to keep them healthy. As an orthopaedic surgeon, I deal with a lot of grandparents who have got joint pains. I always tell my patient, as we grow old our joint pain starts hurting us, they will give us pain as well as swelling. There is no way we can cure it; the only way is how to manage the joint pain. The best way to manage the joint pain is to do regular exercise and keep our weight within the normal range, if we follow only these two things then obviously our joint will take us further into life without causing too much problem. What we as doctors can do to treat joint pain is mainly pain killers and for Nd or rd. grade arthritis, we can inject the knee with steroids. Once the knee become stables start affecting the quality of life for our grandparents. We can offer surgical options be it partial knee for complete knee replacement.”
