“Structural Characterization of Organic Compounds by Spectroscopy”

New Delhi, September 19, 2015: L.M. College of Pharmacy organized a Gujarat Council of Science and Technology (GUJCOST)Sponsored National Seminar and Workshop on “Structural Characterization of Organic Compounds by Spectroscopy” on 11th and 12th September, 2015. The function was inaugurated by Chief Guest, Prof. K. S. Jain and Guest of Honor Dr. S.S. Savale . Dr. M.T. Chhabria addressed the audience with welcome speech.

Scientific sessions of day one started with one of the eminent speakersProf. B.V. Kamath. He delivered his talk on “General introduction to Spectroscopy and Basics of UV-Vis Spectroscopy”. Prof. K.S. Jain spoke on “Basics of Infrared Spectroscopy”. He touched all the aspects of Infrared Spectroscopy and concluded his talk with excellent examples on applications of IR Spectroscopy. Prof. M.R. Yadav shared his expertise on ” Fundamentals of Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy”. He covered all the basics of N.M.R Spectroscopy and its applications in a simple and understanding way. The day ended with our speaker Dr. PathikBrahmkshatriya who spoke on “Application of 1H-NMR and 13C-N.M.R Spectroscopy in Structural Elucidation”.

The first session on second day was handled by Dr. Ravishankara, . He delivered his talk on “Liquid chromatography Mass Spectroscopy – instrumentation and applications”. Various aspects of instrumentation of mass spectroscopy like the ionization sources, analyzers and detectors were beautifully explained by Dr. Ravishankara. Post lunch session of the second day was dedicated to workshop on spectroscopy. The session was taken by Dr. HemalSoni. Initially he gave a talk on interpretation of N.M.R, Mass and IR Spectra’s to determine the structure of organic compounds by giving examples. Later he conducted a workshop by giving different spectra’s to the delegates and requested them to elucidate the structure of the unknown compound by interpreting the spectra.

The day ended with concluding remarks by Dr. M.T. Chhabria and vote of thanks by Programmeco-ordinator,Dr. Sindhu B Ezhava. All delegates were overwhelmed by the knowledge they gained. They were thankful to the organizing committee members for conducting such seminars and requested them to continue to organize such events in future too.
