Sunil Chhetri kicks off Narayana Health City’s #Don’tBeLate campaign

Bengaluru, February 09, 2018: In an effort to create awareness about the importance of early detection in the fight against cancer, Narayana Health City today launched a unique campaign titled #DontBeLate. The campaign was launched by Sunil Chhetri the Captain of Bengaluru FC as well as Indian National Football Team today in the city. The flag off was also graced by Mr. Joseph Pasangha, Chief Operating Officer, Narayana Health City, Dr. Sharat Damodar, Clinical Director, Senior Consultant Haematologist and Head of BMT, Mazumdar Shaw Medical Center, Narayana Health City, Dr. Sunil Bhat, Senior Consultant and Head-Pediatric Hematology, Oncology and Bone Marrow Transplant, Narayana Health City and Dr. Sandeep Jain, HOD & Senior Consultant Radiation Oncology, Narayana Health City.

Launching the campaign, Mr. Sunil Chhetri said, “I feel privileged to be a part of this initiative. I am confident the campaign will help in educating the public that cancer could be cured if diagnosed at the initial stage. It will also create a better understanding about cancer, its causes, how to detect it and thereby promote a healthy lifestyle across the population.”

Elaborating about the campaign, Dr. Sharat Damodar, Clinical Director, Senior Consultant Haematologist and Head of BMT, Mazumdar Shaw Medical Centre, Narayana Health City said, “Cancer is perceived to be one of the few diseases that cannot be cured. The idea of the campaign is to eradicate some of these misconceptions and to educate the public that cancer could be cured if diagnosed early.”

The initiative will see Narayana Health City installing goal post with ball (written cancer over it) across all the leading malls in the city wherein the visitors will be asked to kick the ball symbolizing cancer. The activation will also urge the visitors to take a pledge to take care of themselves. Further, there will also be mannequins elaborating on how to identify cancer.

Cancer is a very dangerous disease that can lead to mortality. There are many types of cancers like Skin Cancer, Blood Cancer, Throat Cancer, Lung Cancer and many more. People suffering from these types of Cancer are very necessary to get proper treatment from the doctors. However, Cancer is a taboo in our society and due to the negative perception about the disease; cancer patients are often felt dejected and hopeless. Hence, this becomes a prime motive for people to come forward to break such taboos and help rebuild the confidence of the cancer patients.
