VES College of Pharmacy holds seminar on nano technology

Mumbai, August 29, 2016: VES College of Pharmacy, part of Vivekanand Education Society, conducted a one-day seminar on “Nano Technology – New Perspectives on Drug Delivery Systems” at its campus on Saturday.

Organised by Department of Pharmaceutics, VES College of Pharmacy, the seminar had resource persons from industry as well as academia.

The scientific session was meant for students of Department of Pharmaceutics.

Dr. Mangal Nagarsenkar, Professor and Head of Department, Pharmaceutics, Bombay college of Pharmacy, held a session on Lipid vesicular nano carriers for overcoming the barriers.

Dr. Vandana Patravale, Professor Pharmaceutics, Institute of Chemical Techology, Matunga, talked about Lipid-based Nano particulate Systems.

The presentation by Dr. Hitesh Doshi, Managing Director, Indeus Life Sciences, covered the need to develop technologies suited to large-scale manufacturing of nano formulations. It discusses importance of nano fornmulations in decreasing dose and toxicity of drug. It includes challenges faced by the formulator to prove superiority of nano formulations over the conventional products available market.

Maneesha Patil, New Product Development Manager, Formulation R & D, Perrigo Laboratories, India Private Limited, gave a general introduction about nano crystals which includes need, benefit and different types of nano crystals. She also covered general information from FDA regarding growing interest shown by FDA. This is followed by a general product development cycle through which a generic development passes for a formulation development of nano crystals.

The seminar was attended by more than hundred delegates including students, research scholars, academia and formulation scientist from industries.

There was also a poster presentation where students presented their research work and other aspects in nanotechnology.

Dr. RajashreeHirlekar, Professor, Pharmaceutics, and coordinator of the seminar, said that the purpose of the seminar was to stress the importance of nanotechnology and various avenues of application of this technology. Other aim was to provide opportunity to research scholars for interaction with academia and industry.

Dr. Supriya Shidhaye, Convener and Principal of College, said the seminar aimed at balancing the innovative research outcomes of academia with practical business outlook of industry in the field of nanotechnology. We also wished to emphasize the need of multidisciplinary research thorough collaborations.

Shri B L Boolaniji, Senior most trustee of VES said that developing the research culture and making home-grown scientists is the need of hour and he would always wish that a pharmacy program focuses on innovative research for better healthcare .
