Bengaluru, August 18, 2019: 16 year old boy got a gift of life today after undergoing heart transplant at Narayana Health City. His saviour was a 34 year old woman who was under treatment for SAH (Subarachnoid Hemorrhage at Aster CMI Hospital, Hebbal. Doctors had declared her brain dead yesterday (16th August 2019) and the family consented for organ donation.

The heart was transported today morning from Aster CMI Hospital, Hebbal to Narayana Health City, Bommasandra.  A distance of 63 kms was covered in a span of 45 minutes with the support from the traffic police department. The traffic police department under the aegis of Dr. B.R Ravikanthe Gowda, DIG & Joint commissioner of Bangalore Traffic Police, Ms. Sowmyalatha, DCP Traffic, Mr. Sudhakar Hedge, NICE Road in-charge and their respective teams along with Hebbagodi Police helped to navigate the peak hour traffic by creating a green corridor.

Hailing from Bengaluru, the recipient was suffering from restrictive cardiomyopathy. He was on medical management at Narayana Health City for the last one month. As his condition could only be improved through heart transplant, the doctors requested him to register at Jeevasarthake. He had registered with Jeevasarthakathe on 7th August, 2019. Fortunately, he received a matching heart today. The transplant surgery has been successful and the patient is recovering.  This transplant becomes the second heart transplant that Narayana Health City has performed within a span of 48 hours.

The heart retrieval and transplant was performed by team led by Dr. Julius Punnen, Heart & Lung Transplant Surgeon, Dr. Varun Shetty, Cardiothoracic Surgeon and Dr Bhagirath Raghuraman senior consultant cardiology and team of support staff.
