Visually Impaired Students run to create awareness on pledging eye at the ‘Run for the Blind 2.0’ Marathon organized by Sankara Eye Hospital

Bangalore, July 09, 2019: Sankara Eye Hospital in association with Bee Organized conducted ‘Run for the Blind 2.0’ marathon to raise awareness about pledging eye in the city today.

About 600 participants were part of the marathon out of which 30 visually impaired students participated along with Sankara Eye hospital staff, students and other members of the public. More than 400 participants signed up the pledge to donate their eye.

Dr Pallavi Joshi, Consultant- Cornea, Refractive services and Ocular Surface Diseases, Sankara Eye Hospital said, “We are glad that we have been part of this very noble initiative. There is a need to spread awareness on eye donation and we at Sankara Eye Hospital have constantly endeavoured to achieve this vision. Initiatives like this will definitely help many to fight blindness. The event has helped in creating awareness among citizens regarding their roles and responsibilities and the utmost importance of eye donation”.

With the success and positive response of the first edition of Run for the Blind 1.0 the second edition was organised to add light to the lives of visually impaired by signing up to pledge eye. The run had 3 different open categories like 3k run, 5k run and 10k run. Winners were awarded with cash, certificate, trophy and medal.
