Bengaluru, September 20, 2023: In an extraordinary display of solidarity and commitment to the cause of eye donation awareness, Sankara Eye Hospital hosted a 4km blindfold walkathon urging citizens to contribute to the noble cause. Around 225 people participated in this remarkable event that included hospital doctors, staffs, students and also Volunteers from Collins Aerospace. The Blindfold Walkathon was filled with inspiration, empathy that a shared vision to make a difference in the lives of those affected by visual impairment.
Participants in the Blindfold Walkathon bravely donned blindfolds, experiencing firsthand the challenges faced by those without the gift of sight. This symbolic act served as a poignant reminder of the importance of eye donation in providing a new lease on life to those suffering from vision impairment.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Umesh, Chief Medical Officer, Sankara Eye Hospital, said, “Through this blind fold walkathon we wish to highlight that a simple act of eye donation can make a profound difference in the lives of those who suffer from vision impairment. The hospital also organized a mobile van campaign that covered the entire city of Bangalore. The campaign successfully gathered a substantial number of eye donation pledges totaling 500. This includes pledges from dedicated police officers, celebrities, enthusiastic school and college students, BMTC bus drivers, etc.
