New Delhi, January 18, 2017: The SCDM Annual Conference 2016 was held this year in Hyderabad, India. India being a pivotal point in a rapidly growing eco system, the conference has been built around the idea of providing a platform for professionals to converge and share their knowledge and expertise in the field.The theme for the year’s conference was aptly identified as “CDM in Digital Health DM 2.0: Technology|Data|Analytics”. This is the third conference to be hosted by SCDM in India. It was a great success, with close to 300 delegates, and about 50 companies present. There was excellent representation by the senior leadership of the clinical research industry.
The conference focused in the data management and sciences space which gives greater content depth and is reflective of the speakers and panelists who have a great deal of hands-on experience. The program had topics that covered current practices as well as emerging models like analytics, data science and risk based monitoring.
Demetris Zambas(Head, Data Science, Novartis), Dr. Vijay Chauthaiwale (Political Activist and Independent Healthcare-Biotech Consultant), Dr. Nimita Limaye (CEO, Nymro Clinical Consulting Services), Dr. Appalla Venkataprabhakar (India Head- Clinical Database and Global Library Oncology Data Sciences, Novartis), Shannon Labout (VP, Education, CDISC) and Mayank Anand (Director, DOTS, Biometrics, INC Research) and Artem Andrianov (CEO, Cyntegrity) inaugurated the conference by showcasing the footprint and success of SCDM India and its future vision.
The first day started with workshop on Project Management by Abhishek Ghosh, Director-CDM, QuintilesIMS followed by keynote session-“Technology Disruption Leading to Data Challenges” by Dr. Vijay Chauthaiwale (In Charge, Foreign Affairs Dept, BJP and HC-Biotech Consultant). He shared his research work connecting with real life examples on how Technology disruption can be a question mark to data. He also touched on how technology (wearables/AI/Drones) will have fundamental impact on how we do things and also mentioned the different type of risks that the technology can create.
Parallel sessions were conductedin two days. ArtemAndrianov (CEO, Cyntegrity) chaired the session on “Implementing Risk Based Monitoring” where various professionals presented and shared their expertise, and built a perspective on the importance of RBM, implementation of RBM in oncology trials and on how to streamline operational outcomes for Centralizing Monitoring.
On the other hand, Praveen Dass (Senior Director, DM ICON Clinical Research), chaired a session on “Evolution of Data Management to Data Science”. The participation for this session was also tremendous, industry leaders from various organizations have presented about the new incarnation of Clinical Data Scientist, Scope Data Managers to become Data Scientist and the Future of Data management.
In the 2nd half, Jayam Ravi (Global Compliance Head, Clinical & Pharmacovigilance, Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories) and Chandrika Arora (Founder & CEO, QMATRA QA) conducted a session on “Preparing for Regulatory Inspection and Audit Readiness”, where speakers showcased how Data Analytics can be used in Audit Process, Preparing of Phase I Unit Regulatory Inspections and Sponsor and CRO collaboration on achieving successful submission. Last but not the least, this session concluded with the rich experience of Chandrika Arora on Hosting and Managing Inspections.
Simultaneously, Mayank Anand (Director, DOTS, Biometrics, INC Research)chaired a session on “Smart Study Build: A DM Approach”. Industry experts presented on SMART design of efficient study build, Best Practices and Pitfalls in eCRF creation, builds using digital technology, Standards for Building CRFs. There was enormous participation for this informative session. The day was concluded with invitation only Leadership Forum, which was chaired by Demetris Zambas and Dr. Nimita Limaye. The forum has senior industry leaders with a rich experience in Life Sciences, who shared their thoughts on “The Data Currency: Cost vs, Revenue- Are Pharma Companies Ready for this World?”
After, the tremendous knowledge outflow of first day, the second day started with wonderful Thought Leadership session by Arun Shankar (VP (Data & Analytics) and Board Member at Chiltern Clinical Research) on “How Big Data and Analytics are transforming clinical landscape”. Arun touched based all the aspects of BIG data and it importance/incorporation in Patient Recruitment, Monitor Patient Adherence, Cloud Computing, Patient Diary, Electronic Media records etc. The session witnessed a meta data of knowledge flow among the house.
Dr. Nimita Limaye, then conducted a debate session on “Risk Based Monitoring- CDM vs. ClinOps- Whose ball game is this?”, where the panelists Abby Abraham (CEO, Algorics), ArtemAndrianov (CEO, Cyntegrity) and many more put forwarded their views and shared their immense experience with the house.
Post-debate, parallel sessions were conducted where Anil Golla (VP, Cytel) chaired the “Data Standards Role is Addressing Data Challenge” session. This session was very informative as it rolled over on all the key areas such as Data Standards, Present and Future scenarios, implementation challenges and also the realistic approaches to overcome the same. Shannon Labout (VP, CDISC) added icing on the cake when she herself contributed her knowledge about CDASH to all.
On the other house, Dinesh P (Head Advanced Analytics, Novartis) conducted the session on “Role of Clinical Analytics in accelerating Clinical Trails”. The presenters of this session elaborated the Epitome of Analytics in Clinical Trials. They also demonstrated how Clinical Analytics can gear up the Clinical Trails.
Dr. Anitha K (AVP, Indigene) chaired the Patient Experience session, where Bhavesh Acharya (COO, Cytespace), Naresh Singh (AVP, BD, Lambda) and Arshad Mohammed (Quintiles) shared their expertise on patient’s perspective and how patient’s lives are getting impacted in a clinical trial.
This year the conference also had student debate session chaired by Dr. Joby John, where the students got an opportunity to share their views on the Past, Present and Future of CDM.
Shobhit Shrotriya (VP, CDM Accenture) lead the session on “Wearables, Mobility and Data Explosion”, where he himself shared the knowledge of Digital Disruption in Life Science and the remedies. Other presenters forecasted the possibility or innovative approaches and the use of technology in Life Sciences.
Naveen Kumar (Director, CDM, inVentivHealth) conducted the “Advantages & Challenges of Data Integration”. A wide variety of areas were touched upon by the presenters, like ePRO, Diary Data Integration Challenges. This session concluded with the Advantages of Data Integration.
The much awaited Regulatory Updates from FDA session was chaired by Demetris Zambas, and the Dr. Steve Wilson, Dr. Ron Fitzmartin, Dr. Mitra Roca of CDER, FDA, shared key regulatory updates.
