Alkem Rolls Out its Nationwide Patient Awareness Drive Under its Breathe Initiative on World Lung Day

New Delhi, September 25, 2023:  Commemorating World Lung Day’s 2023 theme, “Access to prevention and treatment for all: Leave No One Behind,” Alkem is launching an ambitious nationwide initiative aimed at raising awareness about the importance of lung health and the need for early diagnosis and correct treatment. Alkem is committed to reaching every corner of India through this initiative, responding to the increasing number of people suffering from respiratory diseases. To drive their mission, ALKEM is organizing 700 to 800 camps across India, collaborating with nearly 100 hospitals in tier-1 and tier-2 cities.

Sudipta Roy, President, Head-Acute Business, Alkem Laboratories stated, “India faces a significant burden of Chronic Respiratory Diseases (CRD), contributing to 15.69% of the global CRD cases. What is even more concerning is that India accounts for a disproportionate 30.28% of all global deaths attributed to CRD. One particular CRD, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), is especially prevalent in India, with a staggering 55.23 million cases—making it the highest number of COPD cases worldwide. Tragically, India also ranks second globally in terms of COPD-related deaths, with nearly 0.85 million fatalities each year. Furthermore, the nation grapples with a distressing reality regarding Asthma, as it leads the world in terms of Asthma-related deaths, with India accounting for 43% of global fatalities caused by this condition. The campaign will offer crucial information on lung health, smoking cessation programs, and the importance of quality sleep in maintaining healthy lungs.”

“This World Lung Day, Alkem Laboratories is dedicated to promoting healthy lungs and the importance of inhalation therapy. We believe that access to quality healthcare, including inhalation therapy, should be a fundamental right for every individual. Through our countrywide initiative, we aim to spread awareness, educate the public, and ensure that no one is left behind in the fight against respiratory diseases.” added Sudipta Roy.

Inhalation therapy plays a pivotal role in mainstream respiratory management and is often the first line of treatment for lung diseases, including asthma and COPD. For people who want to know more about lung health can visit www.thehealthylungs.com – a one-stop credible knowledge repository on lung diseases. The portal is dedicated to enhancing awareness, busting myths, improving knowledge, and motivating patients to adhere to the therapy.

Sudipta Roy further said, “On World Lung Day 2023, we invite individuals, organizations, and governments to join this global movement. Together, we can ensure that no one is left behind in the battle against lung diseases. Let us raise awareness, promote healthy lungs, and advocate for access to the right treatments.”

The extensive campaign emphasizes not only the importance of healthy lungs but also highlights the crucial role of inhalation therapy in managing respiratory diseases. With a nationwide effort and steadfast dedication, India takes a significant stride toward a healthier and more informed future.
