Alliance between Zerodha, Ketto.org and Habitat for Humanity India to help Daily Wage Workers

New Delhi, May 11, 2020: Zerodha, India’s largest stock broker, is raising funds for daily wage earners who have lost their livelihoods due to the Coronavirus pandemic. Zerodha has collaborated with Ketto, one of Asia’s biggest online crowdfunding platforms, to help Habitat for Humanity India in their noble initiative to provide daily wage earners and their families with essential kits and hygiene kits, and spread awareness on the importance of hygiene and sanitation through their WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene) program. Over the last 37 years, Habitat for Humanity India has impacted the lives of over 35 million individuals across the country through its housing, WASH, and disaster response programs.

In addition to the Rs 25 crore already allocated by Zerodha towards COVID-19 relief spanning multiple areas, it will be matching 100% of each donation on this campaign. This means that if a donor makes a donation of Rs. 10,000 Zerodha will add an extra Rs. 10,000, thus doubling the impact of the donation. Zerodha hopes to leverage its client base of over 2 million to alleviate the sufferings of daily wage earners and their families.

“We are very lucky to have the means to be able to survive this lockdown without having to worry about our next meal. However, there are millions of people who depend on their day’s earning to put food on the table. In these trying times, I think we should all do whatever we can to help those who aren’t as lucky as us to get through this crisis as a society. As Zerodha, we have various initiatives running to do our bit to help. We’ve joined hands with Ketto to also enable our clients to help the needy.” says Nithin Kamath, CEO & founder, Zerodha

“The daily wage workers are living in dire conditions due to the nationwide lockdown imposed in the wake of the Coronavirus pandemic. Through our collaboration with Zerodha, we hope to reach and help the most vulnerable communities where Habitat for Humanity India is working during this time of crisis. We are working closely with hundreds of NGOs and hospitals and have raised over Rs 25 crores to fight the Coronavirus pandemic. The money raised through this initiative will help the daily wage labourers and their families have access to food essentials and sanitation kits necessary to survive this crisis,” said Varun Sheth, the CEO of Ketto, an online crowdfunding giant. Over 800+ Crores have been raised on Ketto for various social causes since it’s inception in 2012.

“With no sustained access to secured income, people living in low-income group are the most vulnerable to the perils of COVID-19 and the lockdown caused by it. Till date, Habitat for Humanity India has supported more than 1,79,000 individuals across the country affected by the COVID-19 lockdown including migrant workers, daily wage earners, people with disability, healthcare professionals, personnel from traffic police, Adivasi families and other people in need. The essentials provided to these families is not only helping them daily but is also contributing to their food security. The need is immense. Our partnership with Zerodha and Ketto will enable us to provide essential supplies to vulnerable communities and ensure their well-being and survival in this moment of crisis,” stated Rajan Samuel, Managing Director, Habitat for Humanity India.
