Apollo Hospitals Salutes Organ Donors – Celebrates “A second chance to live”

Apollo Hospitals will run an awareness campaign for 2 weeks to spread awareness on this supreme act of giving in schools, colleges, corporates, public sectors etc.

Chennai, Aug 24, 2015: Apollo Hospitals, India’s leading healthcare service provider today reiterated its commitment to organ donation and transplantation by felicitating family members of organ donors who gave their recipients “A second chance to live”. Family members of more than 20 cadaver organ donors and organ transplant recipients who received either the liver, heart, lung, kidney, pancreas or multi-visceral transplants had gathered today at Apollo Main Hospital on Greams Road to spread awareness on organ donation.

Apollo Hospitals also announced that it will run an awareness campaign on organ donation for 2 weeks to spread awareness on this supreme act of giving in schools, colleges, corporates, public sectors etc. The campaign was inaugurated today and will conclude on 30th August.

Dr Radhakrishnan, IAS, Secretary of Health, Tamil-Nadu, Dr Prathap C Reddy, Chairman of Apollo Hospitals and Dr Preetha Reddy, Executive Vice Chairperson, Apollo Hospitals were the dignitaries present.

A unique concept of the tree of life was unveiled by Apollo Hospitals Chairman, Dr Prathap C Reddy, which is symbolic of a higher form of co-existence among the life forms that inhabit our planet. Lamps bearing the names of organ donors were lit by dignitaries who later illuminated the branches of the tree.

Dr Radhakrishnan, IAS, Secretary of Health informed the gathering that Tamil Nadu has always taken pro-active measures to support organ donation and is currently the leader in India and south-east Asia with the highest organ donation rates. He also said that this is just the beginning and we should aim to compare ourselves with the world leaders like Germany. Dr Prathap C Reddy and Dr Preetha Reddy addressed the organ donor families and praised them for their noble acts and congratulated them for demonstrating courage and valour. BWI
