APTI Haryana State Branch 1st Annual Conference at Kurukshetra

Haryana, October 13, 2014 – 1st Annual Conference of Association of Pharmaceutical Teachers of India (APTI) Haryana State Branch was held at Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra, Haryana on 22nd and 23rd August, 2014. Theme of the Conference was “Indian Scenario of Pharmaceutical Education: Challenges and Future Perspectives”.

At the inaugural function on 22nd August, 2014, Dr. G.L. Singal, State Drugs Controller-cum-Joint Commissioner, FDA Haryana was the Chief Guest. Prof. Mahesh Burande, President, Association of Pharmaceutical Teachers of India (APTI), Prof. Shivananda B.G., General Secretary, APTI, Prof. ArunGarg, General Secretary, Indian Pharmacy Graduates’ Association (IPGA), Mr. S. L. Nasa, President, Indian Hospital Pharmacist Association and Mr. LalitGoel, President, Indian Pharmacy Graduates’ Association, Haryana State Branch were the Guests of Honour. Lt. Gen. (Dr.) D.D.S. Sandhu(Retd.) Vice- Chancellor, Kurukshetra University presided over the function. The floral welcome ceremony was followed by Deep Prajwalan and SaraswatiVandana and after that, a welcome address was given by Dr. Dhirender Kaushik, Organizing Secretary & President APTI Haryana State Branch of the event and by Prof. A. C. Rana, Convener & Director,Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, KUK. There was key note addressed by Prof. Mahesh Burande, President Association of Pharmaceutical Teachers of India, A renowned teacher, trainer and extempore speaker. He told the participants about the present scenario of Pharmaceutical education in India. He gave the message that the future is yours, stagnant period is going to over.

After that there was blessing message from Lt. Gen. (Dr.) D.D.S. Sandhu, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, Kurukshetra University. He asked the participant to become prefect Pharmacist. He encouraged the delegates by saying that only Pharmacist can invent new molecule, give shape to it and guide the patient who is already worried due to his ailment orabout his medicines. Because pharmacist is the last man to whom he brings his prescription for guidance.

Hon’ble Chief Guest Dr. G.L. Singal, In his address told about the status of Pharmaceutical Industry in India, how our industry feeding most of the poor countries of world by supplying them medicines at affordable prices. They discussed about the difference between Generic and branded or patent medicines.

During the scientific session there were lecturers by Prof. Sharanjeet Singh from NIPER, Mohalion Indian Scenario of Pharmaceutical Education: Challenges and Future Perspectives and Dr. Harish Chander, Department of Molecular Medicine, Central University of Punjab, Bhatinda, Punjab on Breast Cancer.

During the evening, cultural program was there Punjabi Pop singer Aaki Boy performed on various Bhangra Songs. Cultural eve wasinaugurated by Prof. Om ParkashArora, Vice-Chancellor, ManavBharti University, Solan and blessed by Prof. A. Pal, Chairman, Department of Chemistry, Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra. Cultural eve was presided by Dr. K.C Ralhan, Registrar, Kurukshetra University, Kurukshtra.In the poster presentation session, more than 250 posters were displayed on both days.

2nd day programme was started with welcome ceremony, Deep Prajwalan, SaraswatiVandana, Flower presentation and welcome address by Dr. Dhirender Kaushik, Organizing Secretary &President, APTI Haryana State Branch and by Prof. A.C. Rana,Convener& Director Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra.

After the welcome ceremony Prof. Girish Chopra, Dean Life Sciences, KUK and Prof. Shyam Kumar, Dean R&D, gave their blessing and best wishes to the organizing committee for organizing the conference in a befitting manner. Prof. RaghuvendraTanwar, Dean Academic affairs, KUK, was the chief guest on second day opening ceremony. They expressed their views about the zero tolerance as per quality of medicines are concern. Then Mr. T.C. Kansal, Vice- President CIPI expressed their views and said that if industry and academics of Pharmacy field held such types of meetings and conferences then we can solve the difficulties of our profession in befitting manner.

In the end Mr. P.K. Gupta, Chairman, Confederation of Indian Pharmaceutical Industry (CIPI) & President, Haryana Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association (HPMA) in his keynote address explain various facts which the profession is facing. After that there was APTI Haryana State Branch Award ceremony: Prof. Ashutosh Kar awarded with Ram Gopal Gupta Memorial Life Time Achieve Award, Prof. SatishSardana, Principal, Hindu College of Pharmacy, Sonepat & Prof. Yashpaul Singla, Principal, Lord Shiva College of Pharmacy, Sirsa awarded with Anirudh Kumar Bishnoi Memorial Best Principal Award, Prof. Anupam Sharma, University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Panjab University, Chandigarh awarded with Prabhu Dyal Memorial Best Pharmacy Teacher, Dr. Harish Dureja, Associate Professor, Department of Pharmacy, Mahrishi Dayand University, Rohtak awarded with APTI Haryana State Branch Young Pharmacy Teacher Award, Dr. Deepti Pandita, Associate Professor, JCD College of Pharmacy, Sirsa awarded with APTI Haryana State Branch Young Scientist Award and Dr. G. L. Singal, Drug Controller –cum- Joint Commissioner, FDA, Haryana awarded with Best Regulatory Person.

On 2nd day in scientific session a Lecture was delivered on Pharmacovigilance by Prof. Mukul Mathur, Dean, Faculty of Pharmacy, Rajasthan University of Health Sciences, Jaipur. In the end Mr. Vipul Gupta Senior Manager, Regulatory Affairs,Glenmark gave his presentation.

Conference came to end with the evaluation of posters and Valedictory session – all the delegates promised with remarks expressed that they will meet at again to evaluate themselves.
