Bangalore, October 01, 2019: Aster RV and Aster CMI Hospital, in association with Aster Volunteers organized a 5K Run to raise awareness on heart disease this World Heart Day. Themed ‘Be Young at Heart’ this year, the 5K Run was flagged off by the cardiac teams at each hospital in JP Nagar and Hebbal respectively.

More than 600 participants joined the 5K RUN conducted at JP Nagar and Hebbal in order to encourage everyone to be more conscious of their heart health. The events also witnessed educational talks by the cardiologists and a Q&A session with the participants.

Dr. S Venkatesh, Lead Interventional CardiologistAster RV Hospital said, “We are delighted to witness huge participation, we feel that as responsible citizens it is our responsibility to encourage people to be fit and have a healthy young heart with good eating habits and exercise. Unfortunately, our lifestyle changes have curtailed this achievement by enhancing our risks for several diseases. Heart disease is the silent killer in today’s fast paced life and it is important to create awareness around this.”

Dr Ganeshakrishnan Iyer, Lead Consultant – CTVS Surgery, Aster CMI Hospital said, “It is important to make a united effort to curb heart disease in India starting right from the young. The growing rates of hypertension and diabetes play a significant role in the development of heart disease. Early detection of heart disease combined with preventive measures such as better food choices and an increased effort to exercise and maintain a healthy weight is the way forward. This World Heart Day is an opportunity to encourage more caution and care amongst people.”

Participants were holding banners with slogans and other awareness material on heart. Zumba, warm up session along with cool down and Physiotherapy session were conducted as a part of this initiative. The participants also received free jerseys at the event.
