Ayurvedic College to be set up in Gujarat

Gandhinagar February 28, 2014:- Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said a model Ayurvedic college is being set up at Kolwada, near the state capital, at a cost of Rs 150 crore to provide teaching and research facilities in the ancient Indian medicinal system.

Addressing the National Ayurvedic Summit here, he exhorted the medical practitioners to adopt the Indian traditional medicinal systems in large numbers and stressed the need to integrate it with global healthcare.

Expressing concern on China’s increasing export market in herbal medicines, the BJP’s Prime Ministerial candidate said India should also strive to emerge an important player in this sector. “China’s herbal medicine market proves there is a global market for these medicines. India should take up this challenge.”

He said many a neighbouring countries also use herbal products which India can leverage with to popularise Ayurvedic medicinal products globally. He also advocated digitalisation of old Ayurvedic scripts and creating awareness about filing patents and intellectual property rights.
