Mumbai November 06, 2021: In India, there are many rare medical conditions, and sometimes birth defects which have not been diagnosed or treated result in major medical diseases in adulthood. Diagnosing these conditions at the right time is imperative, so the patient can live a long and healthy life. In Mumbai at Zynova Shalby Hospital, “Eventration of Diaphragm”, a very rare medical condition was found in 29-year-old Ramsingh from Kalyan. He was complaining of increasing difficulty in breathing for more than a month and repeated vomiting with chest pain for 2 weeks. He took medicine for vomiting from the medical shop as he thought it was because of food poisoning but there was no relief. Ramsingh then consulted with Dr. Jaydeep Palep, consultant Bariatric & GI surgeon & Dr. Nidhi Khandelwal, laparoscopic Bariatric and GI Surgeon from Zynova Shalby hospital after a month.
Explaining more on this case Dr. Jaydeep Palep, Consultant Bariatric & GI surgeon from Zynova shalby Hospital said, “Eventration of the diaphragm is a rare condition in India where we see displacement of the abdominal organs into the chest. Diaphragm is the main muscle of breathing, and separates the abdominal and chest cavity. If the diaphragm muscle becomes weak, it can cause the lung to collapse, in this case abdominal contents such as the stomach and colon can get displaced into the chest. If this condition is left untreated, it can lead to permanent lung damage. When the patient came to us, we got a CT scan of the chest to confirm the diagnosis. “
Dr Nidhi Khandelwal, Laparoscopic Bariatric and GI Surgeon from Zynova Shalby Hospital said, “This condition requires a surgical correction, in which the diaphragm is brought down into its normal place with stitches. Conventionally, this surgery is done with a big incision on the chest and abdomen, and patient recovery may take more than a month. At Zynova Shalby Hospital with the help of advanced surgical technology, we successfully operated on this case with Minimally Invasive surgery, i.e. Keyhole or Laparoscopic Surgery. There were only 4 small cuts on the abdomen, and the patient noted an immediate improvement in breathing post-surgery. A chest X ray done after surgery showed the diaphragm in normal position. He was discharged within 48 hours of the surgery.”
Zynova Shalby Hospital in Ghatkopar is a big relief for Mumbai suburb and Thane district residents because of easy access from all over ie. from train, metro & highway.
