The blood clotting proteins is deficit and the Hemophilia patients bleed for a longer period after an injury. In case of internal bleeding, the organ tissues can be damaged, which can be life threatening. Some common symptoms of hemophilia include excessive bleeding from cuts, deep bruises, pain in joints and frequent nose bleeding. Blood during urination is another symptom, and it should be taken care of immediately. The hemophilia patients need to get the blood transfusion done regularly in order to improve the blood clot. At this World Blood Donor Day, Dr. Vaijnath Dapase, Internal Consultant, Park Group of Hospital talks about Hemophilia care, and how small lifestyle changes can make a big difference.

  • Regular Exercise– Joint issues is one of the most common problem during hemophilia, and exercising regularly can have a great impact on the same. Swimming, cycling and walking are best exercises one must do. However, contact sports, like football, wrestling etc should be avoided.
  • Avoid certain Medications– Medicines like aspirin and ibuprofen should be avoided, as they can aggravate bleeding. You must also avoid blood thinning medications, as the clotting is already slow, and more blood thinning can make it worse.
  • Dental Hygiene– Hemophilia patients should take care of their dental hygiene, as any dental issue might lead to tooth extraction, which can further lead to excessive bleeding.
