New Delhi, March 14, 2018: Camouflage makeup is a therapy for all skin types and conditions, which provides metamorphosis for the mind, body and soul of the recipient. It involves an application of a composition to cover, poise and reduce skin imperfections while enhancing natural beauty, correcting facial deformities, and reducing the effects of skin trauma caused by congenital, accidental, dermatological, and surgical challenges, or environmental assault.
Corrective camouflage makeup is essential for all skin types. While beauty makeup provides a cosmetic therapy unique in its psychological ability to promote self-esteem and well-being, camouflage makeup physically supports a healthier skin protecting it from aggressive environmental assaults.
The number of individuals who undergo cosmetic and reconstructive surgeries is increasing every year. The social and economic influence that places emphasis on appearance is quite evident at both ends of the age spectrum. Younger people seek peer acceptance, while older people face challenges in maintaining a positive attitude for an extended period of time; the facially challenged strive to seek normalcy.
Historically, the art of camouflage has been well utilized by the army to hide from the enemy. To match their faces to a jungle backdrop, soldiers have used camouflage cosmetics to paint their faces in blotchy patterns. Another camouflage cosmetic technique, which made use of plastic surgery and camouflage creams, was pioneered during the Second World War to help pilots who were badly burnt. These creams did not camouflage the person with the surroundings but rather were used to hide prominent blemishes on the skin.
The camouflage technique involves five sequential stages that are important for successful makeup; these include cleansing the skin, moisturizing the skin with concentrated fluid, neutralizing the discoloration, applying the foundation as per the complexion, and setting up the makeup. The popular products which can be used for camouflage makeup are manufactured by renowned companies like Kryolan, Dermacolor, Dermablend and Keromask.
There are various brands which are currently available for cosmetic camouflage. To determine the best suited products, an accurate evaluation of a patient’s skin type and disorder is a must. Also, the patient’s desire and his financial ability, along with time constraints are important considerations. The best camouflage cosmetics are ones that are natural-looking, waterproof, easy-to-apply, long-lasting, non-irritable, and affordable. Patients may choose products based on availability, pricing and available shades, but it is desirable to obtain a physician’s recommendation on particular ingredients and the ability of products to treat and cover without exacerbating the underlying condition. The main objective of camouflage makeup is to conceal imperfections, while giving a natural effect and ensuring a long-lasting makeup hold.
Camouflage makeup serves as a mechanism to give immediate satisfaction to patients, although it is not considered as a validated therapy by many physicians. It is important for dermatologists to provide this option to patients upon initial consultation since it gives immediate results and can be satisfactory while awaiting the effects of medical treatment. With increasing awareness and knowledge of cosmetic camouflage, physicians are able to offer additional treatment options to patients suffering from skin lesions.
