Construction begins for new 50-bed multispecialty hospital at Amritakripa Hospital Mysuru to augment existing facilities
Mysuru, November 22, 2021:With a vision of providing comprehensive and compassionate healthcare to all, a new 50-bed multispecialty hospital is being constructed inside the campus of Amritakripa Hospital in Roopa Nagar,Mysuru. The new state-of-the-art facility, planned as per NABH specifications, will substantially add to the hospital’s existingcapacity and enhance the scope of services it offers to patients. AmritakripaHospital is one of the wings of Kochi-based Amrita Hospital and has been operating in Mysuru with 15 beds since 2011.
The new wing, equipped to treat 36,000 patients annually, will be spread across a 66,000 sq. ft. building having solar power, all modern amenities and ramp and lift facilities. It will offer general surgery, general medicine, obstetrics and gynaecology, paediatrics, ENT, ophthalmology, orthopaedics, and community medicine. Super-specialties such as plastic surgery, urology, nephrology, neurosurgery, onco-surgery and preventive cardiology will also be available.
Talking about the need for expanding existing facilities,Dr. Vikas Modi who heads the Amritakripa Hospital, said: “There is a skewed distribution of healthcare facilities in urban, rural and tribal areas, with a huge gap in accessibility and affordability. This gap was even more glaringlyfelt during the pandemic. There was an urgent need for a hospital with basic broad specialities and a few super-specialty services in the area, given that there is no proper healthcare facility within a 50 km from Roopa Nagar towards Gaddige[ hunsur]. The entire region is inhabited by villages and tribal population.”
The key facilities at the new facility include six new OPD rooms with a separate casualty department, an isolation ICU and ward for infectious diseases, dialysis, including a dialysis bed for retroviral-positive patients, operation theatres, ICU and a physiotherapy unit. A special unit will focus on wound care and fractures. There would also be a unit to offer surgical corrections to cerebral palsy patients. Holistic care willalso be available with Ayurveda.
Said Dr. Sowmya B, who heads the obstetrics and gynaecology services at Amritakripa Hospital: “There will be regular community outreach by the hospital to provide regular health check-upsat the doorsteps of people in rural areas. The facility will also be engaged in training girl students in various skills related to the healthcare system, aspart of women empowerment in rural community, while building a team of efficient paramedical personnel hailing from rural and tribal areas.”
Notably, the hospital will provide teleconsultations with Kochi’s Amrita Hospital for specialities likePaediatricGastroenterology, paediatric Neurology and Paediatric cardiology along with other super-specialities.
A Bhoomi Poojanprogram was organized at the Amritakripa Hospital to mark the construction of the new facility. It was graced by the presence of Brahmachari PrasadamritaChaitanyaji, Administrator of Amritakripa Hospital, along with Chief Guest Hon’ Shri. G.T. Devegowda, MLA, Chamundeshwari Constituency; Guest of Honour Shri. Prof. G. Hemanth Kumar, Vice Chancellor, University of Mysore; Shri. K.G. Vishwanathan, Managing Director of BNPML; and Shri.
