Amsterdam, October 29, 2016: CPhI India, organised by UBM EMEA, celebrates its 10thanniversary in 2016, and 9 years of collaboration with P-MEC India, with the first ever CPhI India Pharma Week (17th-23rd November 2016) – bringing ten events in one week to the heart of Indian Pharma, in Mumbai. CPhI and P-MEC India is South Asia’s number one event for pharmaceutical sourcing and remains the key hub for the industry’s leading decision makers, executives and suppliers to gather, network and grow business opportunities.
India’s largest city is once again set to welcome more than 40,000 attendees across the seven-day event. This year, such is the size of CPhI & P-MEC India, that the show will take place in two venues simultaneously – the Bombay Exhibition Centre and at the MMRDA Grounds (BKC) and together they will host over 1,200 exhibitors from 100+ countries.
The Indian pharma market is growing at CAGR of 16% and is expected to be worth USD 55 billion in 2020[1]. The country remains the leading global exporter of APIs and a prime pharma hub, producing a third of the world’s medicines, including an emerging cradle of new drugs. Unsurprisingly, it therefore boasts over 300 large companies and a further 10,000 SMEs[2]– with less than one-fourth of these producing APIs vs. 77% making formulations[3]. Within formulations, the biosimilar sector is also evolving rapidly as India’s surging segment expected to touch $1.4 billion in 2016, growing at a rate of 30% per year[4].
CPhI India has been integral to the growth and development in the India pharma economy and to celebrate this rapid advancement, this year a week long programme will feature all aspects of this diverse region. The first CPhI India Pharma Week will bring together the best that the Indian pharma industry has to offer, with an agenda that encompasses the themes of business, knowledge, leadership, innovation, recognition and networking.
Returning in 2016 as part of the India Pharma Week is the second Pre-Connect Congress, providing a knowledge-sharing platform featuring in-depth discussions, industry analysis and interactive thought-leading sessions. Adding to the content focus of the event, CPhI and P-MEC India will launch its CPhI Pharma Insights Report: India, discussing the current market and future prospects for the pharma economy in the next 3-5 years.
Pharma Week will also host the CPhI Women in Pharma Power Breakfast, which gathers female pharma executives from different parts of the world to share their expertise and commend the contribution of women within the Indian Pharma Industry.
Pharma leaders and key stakeholders will attend the CEO roundtable to discuss key challenges around policy making, industry growth and sustainability. Additionally, UBM India offers local and international attendees the opportunity to attend plant visits, and see first-hand some of the advanced facilities in the country.
Finally, the UBM India Pharma Awards, return once again to recognise the excellence and innovations emerging from the pharma industry.
Additional features in 2016 include:
Rutger Oudejans, Brand Director Pharma at UBM EMEA: “This year we are celebrating not only 10 years of CPhI India, but also the development of the Indian pharma industry. Seeing this pharma economy transform in the last decade, it has rapidly moved up the value chain from ingredients to finished formulations and now supplies 40% of generic medicines sold in the US. The increasing demand for generics and Indian produced ingredients along with international partnerships are ensuring double-digit growth across this huge pharma industry. Mirroring the development and changes in the market, and in recognition of Indian pharma, this year we have grown from a three-day exhibition to an event spanning the whole week and every aspect of its diverse supply chain.”
