Dehydration Woes: Quench this summer’s thirst with healthy drinking water – Dr. Abhay Kumar, Eureka Forbes Institute of Environment

New Delhi, May 03, 2017: With the onset of scorching summers, combating the unbearable wave of heat and sun on the body becomes a pain! Summers is the time of the year which brings along its own set of health issues which are common, yet difficult to deal. It could not only cause extreme stress and irritability but can also lead to fatality. Excessive heat exposure can lead to dehydration, which in turn can cause dangerous conditions like heat cramps, heat exhaustion, heat stroke, prickly heat and skin infection.
Many of us often ignore these common summer illnesses and give a blind eye to them. The simplest and the easiest way to stay away from these illnesses is to consume adequate amount of healthy drinking water. However, most of us think water is just to quench thirst, but in reality it is the most important nutrient in our diet and plays a vital role to keep us healthy and hydrated, especially during summers.
Water is what our body uses to purify and flush out the toxins. If the water we consume on a daily basis contains contaminants, our body will not be able to use it to our benefit. 80% of human diseases are water-borne in nature which are almost completely preventable.
Demineralised water or low-mineral content water – in the light of the absence or substantial lack of essential minerals in it – is not considered ideal for drinking. According to WHO (World Health Organization), there are important minerals and electrolytes in the diet and potentially in water that are essential for nutrition and wellbeing. Minerals like Calcium, Sodium, Potassium, Magnesium, Iron, Zinc, Iodine, Phosphorous, Fluoride, Chloride and many more are unequivocally essential for human health; although not commonly realized, drinking water provides most of these elements. Most of us remain unaware that often, using the wrong purification technology demineralises water, which results in several health problems and mineral deficiencies over a period of time.
Healthy water which is enriched with essential nutrients, minerals and vitamins, is extremely crucial and plays a very vital role in building a strong immune system. It infuses energy into the body, controls bacteria, and stimulates brain function as well.
Without enough healthy water, we fall prey to dehydration and other mineral deprived diseases which are linked to stress. Scientific research has drawn a link between dehydration and common problems related to anxiety that most urban dwellers face. When we are dehydrated, our cells feel it at the molecular level and communicate this to the subconscious as an underline subtle anxiety or threat to survival. By staying hydrated you will be better equipped to deal with everyday problems.
Cold water stimulates the release of substances vital to immune function, such as cytokines that help in enhancing immunity. Opt for water purifiers which give healthy water with the benefit of instant cooling. These purifiers also eliminate the hassle of refilling bottles and putting them in the refrigerator.
While people often restrict themselves to only expensive and time-consuming methods to combat stress and stay fit, they don’t realize it can actually be controlled by something as simple as drinking healthy water. Hence, drink your way to a healthy living, this summers!
