New Delhi, September 16, 2015: The joint initiative by Delhi and Gurgaon Traffic Police of creating a green corridor in order to facilitate organ transportation received recognition and a special award at the prestigious India Health & Wellness Summit and Awards, 2015.

On 6 January, 2015, Delhi and Gurgaon traffic police joined forces to establish a 32 km ‘green corridor’ from Sector 44 in Gurgaon to Okhla in South Delhi, whereby a convoy of ambulances were able to cover the whole distance in 29 minutes. Their motive was to transport a live beating heart which was to be transplanted into a 16 year old boy suffering from a failing heart at Fortis Escorts Heart Institute in Okhla. The heart was being transported from Fortis’s Gurgaon hospital.

UNICEF India was awarded the Public Health Communications Campaign of the year while Dr. Minnie Bodhanwala won the Distinguished services to Women and Children’s Health. Further, other healthcare providers like Fortis Escorts Heart Institute and Kaya Skin Clinic were felicitated with the Healthcare CSR of the Year and Wellness Service Brand of the year. Further, Kaya Skin Clinic was the joint winner of Wellness Service Brand of the Year along with Spa by JW Marriott Mumbai, Sahar. IHW AWARDS presented by Mother Dairy was held in the national capital on 10 September, 2015.

UNICEF India had launched ‘Take Poo to the Loo’, an innovative digital-led campaign on 11 November, 2014 which focused on putting an end to open defecation. Through this initiative, UNICEF India aimed to create awareness on the issue. The idea was to reach out to young people, create an active layer of advocates who could speak out against open defecation, disseminate the message and influence their communities, families and peers to do the same. Through interactive social media components and initial on-ground activations across New Delhi, Hyderabad, Pune and Mumbai, this campaign had an effective impact among people.

This year’s India Health & Wellness Summit and Awards witnessed the felicitation of different organizations excelling in the field of healthcare. Eminent jury and speakers from diverse fields shared their opinions and statements regarding challenges faced in India’s health sector and measures undertaken to rectify them.
