~Witnesses around 25 to 30 cases of intense dengue and chikungunya per week ~
Bengaluru, June 12, 2019: The early monsoon in the city may have eased Bangaloreans from humidity and sweltering heat, but it has unleashed a series of harmful viruses and a slew of diseases states medical experts at Narayana Health City. Apart from cold and flu, the frequent rains and the resultant water logging in several places across the city is resulting in early strike of dengue and Chikungunya. While the number of cases are on the rise and also the cases are more complicated with more morbidity compared to last year.
Elaborating about the situation, Dr. Mahesh Kumar, Consultant, Internal Medicine, Narayana Health City said, “Dengue and Chikungunya are rising especially after the recent rains. We at Narayana Health City have been seeing around 25 to 30 patients every week. While the numbers are on the rise, what is unique this year is the intensity. Unlike previous years, we are seeing steeper drop in platelet counts and more patients with liver inflammation.
The symptoms of dengue and Chikungunya are consistent high grade fever, headache, joint and muscle pain, nausea, and body rashes.” added Dr. Mahesh Kumar
Apart from medication following a healthy routine can help in faster recovery as well as preventing the occurrence of the condition. Some of the measures that can help in quick recovery are:
- Taking adequate rest
- Drinking plenty of fluids
- Appetite can be low because of liver inflammation, eating in small quantities every 3 hrs, taking more liquids, fruits and fruit juices will help.
- Eating food rich in Vitamin b12
- Seek early medical care in case of above symptoms exceeding more than 48 hours
While adopting the above measures can help in recovering, the key would be to protect oneself from being infected with the condition. Few of the preventive measures that can prevent dengue and chikungunya are wearing full sleeve clothes, especially during evening as well as night and covering the body as much as possible and using mosquito repellents or sprays. Ensuring water tanks and water containers are covered, keeping your surroundings clean, especially taking precautions and not allowing water to remain stagnant in and around the house can also go a long way in keeping oneself healthy during the season.
