Ewater was India’s first microprocessor controlled water to enter the market

Bengaluru, March 20, 2016: Alfaa UV specializes in the design, manufacture and sale of a complete range of UV air & water purification systems, and is the leader in industrial UV in India. It is one of the few companies in the world today which is totally focused on harnessing environmentally friendly ultraviolet technology to solve challenging environmental problems. A private limited company, Alfaa UV was started by Mr Anand Parikh and Mrs Rajul Parikh in the mid nineties. Their son Ankur, joined the business in early 2000’s. Alfaa UV also holds the distinction of being the No. 1 manufacturer of Stainless Steel UV water purification systems in India. In 2001, Alfaa earned the certification of ISO 9001, an internationally recognized model for quality assurance in design, development, production, installation and service, being the first water purification company in India to be awarded this certification. Other firsts include introduction of an online validation tool(monitoring device) , validation by CFD technology, introduction of UV for swimming pools, disinfection units for air in HVAC Systems, and UV for recycling and reuse of waste water.

Initial offerings by Alfaa were focused around the residential market with point of use Stainless Steel UV purifiers, which promised safe drinking water and associated good health. Ewater was India’s first microprocessor controlled water to enter the market. Soon products offering higher flow rates for commercial segments were introduced.

Meanwhile, ultraviolet (UV) disinfection systems were becoming the preferred option internationally in the pharmaceutical industry (bulk drugs and formulations), which incorporated quality & cGMP norms in the production lines. The applications of UV in the pharmaceutical industry were mainly for microbial reduction, TOC reduction & for Ozone / Chlorine destruction. In the pharmaceutical industry, purified water was required in the washing, rinsing & manufacturing process. It was imperative that water meet the standards of microbial quality set by the IP / BP / USP to obtain a good quality end product.

With gaining expertise in UV technology and its applications, and an innovative and quality conscious approach Alfaa was quick to understand the requirements of the industry and offer products to meet those needs. Soon, Alfa’s range of UV purification systems expanded to cover process water requirements in the pharmaceutical, healthcare, and food and beverage space. Alfa’s reputation for quality, reliability, and after sales service spread and Alfaa UV systems were being installed across the length and breadth of India at leading pharmaceutical manufacturing plants. The unique feature of ONLINE validation tool ensured that every production batch was monitored carefully so that the correct UV dose was given at all times, to maintain the quality of water, and the quality of the product..

The same success story was repeated in the food and beverage sector, where large and small quality conscious companies adopted UV as the preferred choice of disinfection in their manufacturing process, to improve quality and lengthen shelf life. Besides drinking water and process water, Alfaa’s UV systems were used for ozone, chlorine and TOC reduction. Other industries to adopt UV in their process included construction , hospitality, paint , fisheries and hatcheries. In the world of UV disinfection, Alfaa became the undisputed leader. Disinfection of water in swimming pools and spas, traditionally done with chlorine, began to adopt UV as an alternative. This new application is seeing good growth in recent times.

The next milestone was the pioneering effort to use UV for the tertiary treatment of wastewater. Wastewater treatment was yet a novelty, and only a handful practiced waste water disinfection with the objective of reusing the water for gardening or flushing. Disinfection using chlorine was the traditional choice, but handling and storage posed hazards. With the introduction of sewage treatment plants (STPs) , Alfaa’s UV systems were placed post STP to disinfect water after primary and secondary treatment. This water, with coliforms well within safe levels, was used to successfully replace fresh water needs for gardening, and flushing. UV disinfection of waste water began to be used in hotels, malls, hospitals and industries where large quantities of water were required for such purposes. Today Alfaa’s WWR Series has replaced traditional chlorination in hundreds of post STP applications to confidently recycle the water.

Along with growth in sales, an after sales service network covering all parts of the country was established . Prompt and reliable after sales service and availability of spare parts and consumables at the point of use, became the hallmarks of Alfa’s service.

Today, Alfaa UV has more than 10 brand extensions , each brand positioned to meet the needs of a particular segment and application. Platina series; Sparkle series, Compac series, Coolmate UV, EcoStream series, APi series, Biopure UV, Hiflo series, WWR series, Dewdrop RO+UV, being the most popular, with disinfection flow rates ranging from 100 LPH to 2,50,000 LPH in a single unit.

The latest offering in the basket of Alfaa’s products are air disinfection systems using UV technology. Biofouling of cooling coils and contamination of ducts in HVAC systems lead to higher energy costs and risk of cross contamination. Alfaa’s Ultracoil UV and Ultraduct UV systems address these issues, resulting in lower energy consumption, lower electricity bills, higher savings and reduction in chances of cross contamination . Hospitals, offices, schools, malls and theatres are segments that are seeing a rise in usage of UV air disinfection units to improve indoor air quality (IAQ).

Alfaa UV’s world class manufacturing facility at Talegaon, Maharashtra (two hours from Mumbai) produces the entire range of water and air purification products catering to the residential, commercial, and industrial markets. The facility uses the most advanced machinery, processes and technology to provide high quality products to customers. Ankur, with youthful zeal and passion has spread the UV net far and wide and has pioneered the waste water, swimming pool and air disinfection applications in India. Ankur is currently exploring the immense opportunity in the municipal segment to disinfect tertiary treated wastewater so that it can be reused. The Swachh Bharat campaign has opened up this window of opportunity, in the face of growing scarcity and pollution of water and water bodies.
