New Delhi, May 01, 2019: Junior Science Olympiad (JSO) is considered to be the most coveted competition for students having affinity towards scientific education and for those vying for a career in scientific research. Meant for students of Class VIII, IX & Xand those below the age of 15 years,Junior Science Olympiad is conducted every year which is divided into 5 stages. The first 3 stages are selection rounds held in India. While the 1st stage i.e.National Standard Examination in Junior Science(NSEJS) is conducted by Indian Association of Physics Teachers (IAPT) whereas the 2nd& 3rd stages are conducted by Homi Bhaba Centre for Science Education (HBCSE). At the end of 3rd stage, 6 students are selected and are put into a training camp called the Pre-Departure Training (PDT) i.e 4th stage post which these students get to represent India into the world finals which is also the final stage called the International Junior Science Olympiad (IJSO). Participants from 70+ countries compete for the International Titles at IJSO.
FIITJEE Punjabi Bagh (Delhi) Centre, conducted a preparatory boot camp called “CAMP OLYMPIA” for the students who have qualified Indian National Junior Science Olympiad (INJSO) i.e2nd stage of JSOand to make them ready for Orientation Cum Selection Camp (OCSC) i.e 3rd stage of JSO. CAMP OLYMPIA isa 15 day fully residential boot camp aiming to equip students with the theoretical&practical skills on Physics, Chemistry&Biologyby expert faculties of FIITJEE Punjabi Bagh Centre and renowned scientists who interacted with the students as Guest Speakers. One of the key attractions at the camp among the participants isa special session by ex-students of FIITJEE Punjabi Bagh Centre. One of them is Kushagra Juneja, he was the World Topper and Gold Medallist in IJSO 2014, and currentlyhe is studying Computer Science Engineering at IIT Bombay. He will be sharing valuable insights &tips with the students.
Apart from regular learning, an assessment framework has been put up such that students can evaluate their progress in learning. So, the students are writing tests on alternate days followed by a detailed performance analysis by their mentors.
The boot camp has adopted a holistic approach by incorporating sessions on mindfulness, physical fitness, relaxation, stress management which are essential components of doing well in a competition apart from subject skills. Students from across countryare participating in the boot camp.
