Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Assam, Magic Bus and Nestlé India commemorate World Health Day in Guwahati

New Delhi, April 08, 2018: Nestlé India in collaboration with the FDA Assam and Magic Bus India Foundation, commemorated the forthcoming World Health Day through the Nestlé Healthy Kids programme in Guwahati. The program has reached out to 5000 adolescents and 1500 parents, educating them on nutrition, health, wellness and active living.

The Nestlé Healthy Kids Programme has been developed to raise awareness among adolescents to help them understand basic nutritional requirements, good cooking practices, healthy eating habits, hygiene, physical activity and lifestyle diseases. Along with students, this programme also includes interaction with parents through workshops to encourage them to implement healthy habits at home.

Education is a powerful tool for ensuring that children understand the value of nutrition and physical activity, and continue leading healthy lives, as they grow older. Under the Nestlé Healthy Kids Programme, adolescents are encouraged to adopt a healthy lifestyle during the formative years of life for enabling healthy living and lesser health issues in the future.

Speaking on the occasion, Ms.Varnali Deka, Commissioner of Food Safety, Government of Assam said, ” Nutrition plays a key role in laying a healthy foundation and therefore it is important to make sure that good nutritional habits develop early. Education and awareness play a key role in determining good health and building a healthier tomorrow.”

Mr. Sanjay Khajuria, Senior Vice President – Corporate Affairs, Nestlé India said, “The Nestlé Healthy Kids Programme has reached out to over 200,000 beneficiaries across 21 states and we plan to benefit more children in the days to come. We believe that health and nutrition plays a very significant role in helping shape better lives. We want to work towards better understanding of the value of good nutrition amongst communities to help them lead active and healthy lives.”

Mr. Matthew Spacie, Founder, Magic Bus India Foundation further added, “We at Magic Bus are inspired by Nestlé India’s commitment towards healthier lifestyle. Our partnership with Nestlé India spans over three years and we are proud to be associated with them for making a difference to young lives.”

Nestlé India celebrated their three-year long association with Magic Bus Foundation in November 2017 and has till date reached out to around 200,000 adolescents. For the Nestlé Healthy Kids Programme, Magic Bus has created and customised its existing curriculum into three major buckets with the objective of raising awareness on ‘Nutrition and Health’, ‘Getting Active’ and ‘Hygiene and Sanitation’ amongst children in communities and government schools.
