Bangalore, April 01,2014 –
Fortis Healthcare , among India’s largest integrated healthcare delivery providers, is expanding its operations and giving a vertical focus to its system in an effort to differentiate itself in the marketplace.

As part of this initiative, it has put in motion expansion plans that will see the commissioning of two medical facilities focusing on mother & child care and advanced cancer treatment here, aggregating 280 beds, over the next two years.

Fortis Healthcare has a presence across hospitals, diagnostics and day care speciality facilities and currently operates healthcare delivery services in India, Singapore, Dubai, Mauritius and Sri Lanka, with 66 healthcare facilities (including projects under development), over 10,000 potential beds and approximately 260 diagnostic centres.

Fortis La Femme, dedicated to mother and child care, is a 70-bed hospital and would be ready to receive patients by mid-2015. It would provide primary to tertiary medical care and surgical capability in gynaecology, obstetrics and cosmetology, in addition to an in vitro fertilisation clinic and a neonatal intensive care unit. Through Fortis Mamma Mia, the hospital would provide holistic ante and post-natal services for women and day-care medical services for children.

The proposed Centre for Oncology assumes significance in light of the worrying trends revealed by the population based cancer registry or PBCR Report 2013. Bangalore now has the third highest number of cancer cases in India, with around 125 cases per lakh of population, detected every year. Additionally, Bangalore has seen a higher number of women than men being detected with the disease.

Fortis’ Centre for Oncology would provide treatment across medical, radiation and surgical oncology. The centre would also serve as a preferred treatment facility for patients from the rest of Karnataka and neighbouring states like Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Kerala. Business Standard
