Fortis Healthcare Launches Emergency Number for Mumbaikar’s

Aims at improving survival rates by deploying timely Emergency Medical Services

Mumbai, June 29, 2015 – Fortis Healthcare, is all set for the launch of its centralized Emergency Number, 022-4111 4111, that will provide respite to thousands of Mumbaikar’s who seek emergency medical aid during road accidents, workplace mishaps, natural calamities etc. With the numbers rising year on year, spike particularly seen during monsoons, the launch of the Fortis’ Emergency Number, on Sunday, June 28th, has been timed to better equip the city to deal with casualties.

Team at Fortis Healthcare, through this initiative, is building on the fact that timely deployment of Emergency Medical Services improves the survival rates and outcomes. The Emergency Number will aim at providing initial stabilization en-route and for the patient to be transported to the nearest Fortis hospital in the event of an emergency. The Emergency Number will help aid varied emergencies, ranging from workplace, household, industrial to mass casualties and general emergencies.

According to the recent State Economic Survey, Mumbai tops in the number of accidents. Mumbai stands at a whopping ratio of 92 per 10,000 vehicles as compared to the rest of the state. In 2014, the city’s roads saw 527 fatalities, a steep rise from 497 recorded in the previous year. Information obtained under RTI from Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), as many as 260 persons lost their lives and 270 others were seriously injured due to landslides between 1992 and 2013. These numbers are a stark reminder that there is a need for medical intervention and strengthening of the emergency medical services network.

With the launch of this number, Fortis will also aid in bridging the gap between the occurrence of the incident and provision of emergency help. Easy to remember and easy to call, Fortis’ Emergency Number 022-4111 4111 is a ready reckoner in times of medical emergency.

Functional across all Fortis Hospitals of Mumbai (Mulund, Vashi, Mahim and Kalyan facilities), the Emergency Number services are backed with a strong communication system and a skilled team that will aid in timely deployment of emergency medical services. The Emergency Dept. headed by Dr Amit Nabar, Dr Sandeep Gore, Dr Mangesh Shankhpale and Dr Betty Pramod, provides the highest standard of care, adheres to international protocols, follows stringent infection control practices and has specially trained team of doctors and nurses who are available round the clock.

  1. Advanced Life Support ambulances with invasive and non-invasive ventilation facility
  2. Emergency Response Team:
  • Trained doctors who will be able to handle critically ill patients
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) trained nursing staff
  • BLS trained helpers

3. Each ambulance to have emergency medical kit comprising of lifesaving medicines and equipment
