Fortis Hospital, Shalimar Bagh organises ‘Run for the Heart’ for North Delhi residents to celebrate World Heart Day

New Delhi, September 26, 2014:

To motivate people for a healthy heart, Fortis Hospital, Shalimar Bagh organized a 2 Km run titled ‘Run for the Heart’ for the residents of North Delhi. The running competition was eligible for residents in the age group of 50 years and above. The run was flagged off by Mr. Jasdeep Singh, Zonal Director, Fortis Healthcare, Dr. J.C Mohan, Director of Cardiology and Dr. Vinay Sanghi, Associate Director, Cardiology, Fortis Hospital, Shalimar Bagh and was held in the premises of the hospital. The winners were presented with cash prizes and received certificate of participation. Participants who missed the finishing line received free special cardiac consultation from the expert team of doctors at Fortis Shalimar.

The ‘Run for the Heart’ run witnessed an enthusiastic participation from over 50 residents from Shalimar Bagh, Pitampura, Rohini, and Ashok Vihar. The oldest participant of the run was 78 years old. A dedicated team of doctors was present throughout the run to provide first aid and offer suggestions on how to maintain a healthy heart and body.

Mr. Jasdeep Singh, Zonal Director, Fortis Healthcare said , “Fortis Hospital, Shalimar Bagh has always promoted initiatives that support a healthy living. The objective behind supporting such a run is to encourage people to enhance their understanding of a balanced lifestyle to take care of their heart. We are pleased by the response and support from residents of neighboring colonies for this initiative.”

Speaking on the occasion Dr. J.C Mohan, Director of Cardiology, Fortis Hospital, Shalimar Bagh said , “Heart diseases and stroke are the world’s leading cause of death, claiming 17.3 million lives annually, with the numbers rising year on year. According to the WHO, while the rest of the world enters the heart attack zone at around 55 years, Indians become susceptible as early as 35 years of age.

While we are making tremendous progress with regards to drugs and clot busters that prevent heart attacks, it is equally important to lead a balanced and stress free life, add physical activity in your daily routine and control dietary patterns to prevent heart attacks. People who are not physically active have a 20-30 per cent increased risk of mortality compared to those who engage in at least 30 minutes of moderately intensity physical activity most

days of the week.” CCI Newswire
