Govt-patented Microwave Medical Waste Disinfection System requests intervention for policy provision to find place in Government eMarketplace

New Delhi, July 11, 2017: A government patented microwave technology for medical waste disinfection, OptiMaser is an eco-friendly technology which is working towards giving Indians a technology that would not only cater to their present need but also secure their future, in terms of environment, ease of use and could be a possible game-changer for healthcare industry.

OptiMaser, a mobile microwave medical waste disinfection system manufactured by S.S. Medical Systems (I) Pvt Ltd has requested the intervention of Union government expressing its concern over the process being followed to establish “GEM” an online ” Govt. E Marketplace ” for government procurement by writing letters to Ministry of Health & Family Welfare and Ministry of Commerce and industry.

Based on recommendations of Group of Secretaries made to Hon’ble Prime Minister, the Government decided that DGS&D will create a one stop Government eMarketplace (GeM) to facilitate online procurement of common use Goods & Services required by various Government Departments / Organizations / PSUs.

OptiMaser a state of art, medical waste disinfection system developed by Society for Applied Microwave Electronic Engineering and Research (SAMEER), a scientific society of Department of Electronics and Information Technology (Deity). This technology appropriately fits in the Governments Initiative of “Make in India” and “Swachh Bharat Abhiyan”. This can be deployed at all public health centres /hospitals where infectious waste is generated.

Mr. Monish Bhandari, Executive Director, Marketing & Tech Support, OptiMaser says “We, S. S. Medical Systems (I) Pvt Ltd, in the year 2014, had taken a Transfer of Technology from Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY), for manufacture of Medical waste Disinfection System, now commercialized by the name of OptiMaserTM. This ToT was undertaken as our initiative to be a part of Hon’ble Prime Minister’s “Make in India” mission. The product is enhanced & developed with 24 months of in-house persistent research & development, and was perfected for launch in the year 2016 in India & abroad. In the event of this extension not being granted, nor the GEM platform having provision for selling of patented indigenous products, it will not only kill this indigenous product but also the emergence of a growing Indian industry”.

Hence there are few reasons Why OptiMaser (S S Medical Systems (India) Pvt Ltd.)- Microwave Medical Waste Disinfection System is the best option for India HCU’s:

Microwave technology with features as mentioned below far exceeds the archaic steam based disinfection offered by alternative technology i.e. autoclave:

1. Complies 100% to latest BMWM (Biomedical Waste Management) Rules March 2016

2. Swachh Bharat & Kaya kalp Complaint

3. Instant purchase via DGS&D Rate Contract for all three modes

4. 75% cost effective vis. a. vis an Autoclave over 5 years

5. Only Mobile Microwave based disinfection system in the world

6. Zero Emission & Zero Discharge

Since this proprietary product will not have a platform to be sold with effect from 1st July, therefore this situation has called for an extension of DGS&D (Directorate General of Supplies and Disposal) a minimum period of 6 months i.e till Dec 31, 2017 to put forth authorities for an urgent policy decision to include this GOI patented, proprietary product, on the GeM platform.
