New Delhi, May 28, 2017: The Indian Institute of Packaging (IIP) has invited applications for the 33rd batch of its Post Graduate Diploma in Packaging (PGDP). According to a statement issued by IIP, the course is one of the only two advanced courses in packaging in the world, the other being offered in the US. The IIP is a national apex body set up in 1966 by the packaging and allied industries and the Ministry of Commerce, Government of India. The concept of packaging has acquired more value than ever now with the ‘shopping’ experience receiving a major boost with the coming of malls and departmental stores. Popularly known as a ‘silent’ salesman, packaging helps consumers quickly understand what the product is all about. In actuality, it is the science, art and technology of enclosing and protecting products for distribution, storage, sale and use. For a factor that adds value to the product and connects with marketing, the packaging industry requires skilled personnel with creativity and a strong background in business, engineering, and science. It is therefore that in 1985, the IIP decided to take a step forward in the direction of packaging education and introduced the Post Graduate Diploma in Packaging course.
