Bangalore 04, Dec 2014: Next-Gen Genomics & Bioinformatics Technologies (NGBT) Conference will be held from Nov 17th-19th, at the
National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS), Bangalore, India. The meeting is organized by SciGenom Research Foundation (SGRF) along with NIMHANS and Institute of Bioinformatics (IOB), Bangalore, India. This is the fourth international conference being co-hosted with a national institute partner by SciGenom Conferences, the educational outreach arm of SciGenom Research Foundation (SGRF), setup to promote Science education and Research in India/Asia-Pacific region. The 2014 conference will showcase and promote applications of Next-Gen sequencing and genomics technologies for basic studies to translational work all areas of biology including human genetics, drug discovery, clinical medicine, biomarkers, diagnostics, animal science and agriculture. The conference will also feature a bioinformatics workshop, a proteomics workshop and expanded sessions on cancer signaling. Further, there will be exciting poster awards supported by Nature Reviews Cancer, Elife, Journal of Cell Science culminating many exciting work presented by students and postdocs. The job fair at 2014 NGBT will also connect the skill with the right employer
The NGBT meeting this year will feature over 80 speakers of national and international eminence. The conference will also feature a pre-conference bioinformatics workshop and a proteomics workshop. Also, the conference will feature an Art exhibition themed “Art meets Science”. Another exciting activity at conference will be the “VarMap” real-time genotyping project that will look at eightSingle Nucleotide Polymorhpisms (SNPs) that include five SNPs that can predict type 2 diabetes risk, one SNP associated with cilantro taste, another associated with body odor or the lack of it and one SNP associated with ability to smell fruity odor. On day 1 of the conference cheek swabs from consenting participants will be collected used to analyze the SNPs on day 2. The results from this study will be presented on day 3 before the conclusion of the meeting. Participants can get their individual data in early part of 2015 through a password protected web portal.
MedGenome, a leading integrated solution provider of molecular diagnostics in India, will provide the technical expertise and laboratory support forperforming the real-time analysis. It will leverage its bioinformatics platforms for performing the data analysis and provide the results for presentation on day 3 of the conference. MedGenome plans to demonstrate the state of genotyping technologies in this modern era where genomics is increasingly becoming popular, both in clinical practice and in research. Next-Gen Genomics & Bioinformatics
Technologies (NGBT) Conference will be held from November 17th to November 19th, 2014 at NIMHANS, Bangalore, India.
Genotyping and analysis timeline:
Day 1: Nov 17th, 2014 – Sample collection and DNA preparation
Day 2: Nov 18th, 2014 – Genotyping
Day 3: Nov 19th, 2014 – Data analysis and results to be announced at the meeting
At the 2013 NGBT conference, a similar real time activity demonstrated the power of modern sequencing technologies, where mitochondrial genomesof participants was sequenced realtime. MedGenome was the technology and laboratory support provider at the 2013 NBGT meeting that enabled the activity possible. Cheek swabs from 80 consenting participants at the meeting were used in this study. Post sequencing, on day 3 of the meeting the data was analyzed to determine the haplogroup* of the participant and the results were announced at the meeting.
* In molecular evolution, a haplogroup (from the Greek: ἁπλούς, haploûs, “onefold, single, simple”) is a group of similar haplotypes that share a common ancestor having the same single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) mutation in all haplotypes.
At NGBT 2014, a job fair will also be organized to connect students and job seekers with prospective employers. The job fair will feature prominent companies in the genomic research, diagnostics and device space looking to attract specific skill set for their niche job roles. Registrants also get to showcase their skill sets to employers as part of the content rich conference featuring more than 80 speakers, both national and international.CCI Newswire
