IPA (Delhi State Branch) Establishes Five Forums

New Delhi, February 04, 2018: The Indian Pharmaceutical Association-Delhi State Branch (IPA-DSB) has successfully formed five forums, viz. Regulatory Forum (RF), Industrial Forum (IF), Academic Forum (AF), Student Forum (SF) and Community & Hospital Forum (CHF) on January 14, 2018. In its meeting, the Executive Council members of IPA-DSB unanimously nominated the Chairpersons and Conveners for aforesaid forums. The objective of establishing the forums was to give more platform to all the divisions of the pharmaceutical profession, with the aim of organizing professional and educational programs to promote good pharmacy practice and strengthen the pharmacy workforce in the national capital region of Delhi. 

Sidharth Sai Malhotra has been nominated as the Chairman and Dr Saurabh Arora & Ombir Yadav as the Convener of the ‘Regulatory Forum’. The forum will be responsible for participation in the legislation-related activities which govern all aspects of drugs, including research, quality control, sales, manufacturing and distribution, in both proactive and reactive manner. RF will also share all the draft amendments of primary legislations dealing with drugs such as Drugs & Cosmetics Act, gazette notifications and regulatory updates to all IPA-DSB members. Another responsibility is to coordinate with all the officers of the drugs control department across the country and to actively associate with national authorities for international harmonization of drug legislations. 

The Industrial Forum, chaired by Sushant Sharma and Rajesh Agarwal as Convener, will be responsible for organizing training courses and workshops to upgrade the level of industrial pharmacists in the country. The intention is to maximize awareness and training of professionals involved in industrial pharmacy practice. On the other hand, Prof Roop K. Khar as chairperson and Dr Javed Ali as Convener of Academic Forum will act as link between academia & industry and coordinate activities, seminars, conferences & trainings required for upgradation of faculty members. The key responsibility of the Student Forum, chaired by Dr Shiv Kumar Yadav, is to boost the confidence of students and make them aware about the prospects & scope of pharmacy profession. SF will conduct programs, inductions and seminars to meet the said objectives. Rakesh Prashar as chairperson and Sudhir as Convener of the Community and Hospital Forum, will be responsible to make pharmacists aware about their role in the community and to educate general public about the role of pharmacist and other drug or prescription-related matter. 

Commenting on the development, Dr Naresh Sharma, President of IPA-DSB & Assistant Drugs Controller (India), Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO)-North Zone, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, New Delhi said, “The Council appreciates and welcome the task to build the image of pharmacy profession not only in India but also across the globe.” He concluded, “All the forums will work in close association with each other to increase the membership drive of IPA and to make the Association more visible.”
