Mumbai July 1 2013: We are delighted to inform you that the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM) is organizing a seminar on “I.P.R. for SMEs in PHARMA” – Challenges & Opportunities on Tuesday, 6th August, 2013 – Mumbai.

We have invited Shri Chaitanya Prasad, IAS, Controller General of Patents, Designs & Trade Marks to kindly grace the occasion as our Guest of Honour. We have also invited Shri K. H. Muniyappa, Hon’ble Minister of State for MSME with Independent Charge to grace the occasion as our esteemed Chief Guest.

Healthcare Industry is one of the world’s largest and fastest-growing segments which consume over 10 percent of G.D.P. of most developed nations. Healthcare sector accounts for a fair share of industrial production, exports and has been accepted as the engine of economic growth for promoting equitable development. Healthcare sector has shown admirable innovativeness and adaptability to survive in today’s fiercely competitive environment. India is swiftly budding into a technology-led country, particularly in arena of Healthcare, Pharmaceuticals, & Biotechnology which necessitates an urgent need for capacity building of these sectors to reap benefits out of it.

Objective of the Seminar is to Nurture I.P. culture & implement it in Healthcare / Pharmaceutical sector which will exert positive inducements on Healthcare technological innovation, promote equitable drug pricing, accessible healthcare, commercialization of I.P., protect a firm’s R&D investments, spur incentives for innovation and encourage diffusion of knowledge. This will further impart greater vitality & growth impetus to the Healthcare sector in terms of output, employment and exports thereby instilling a competitive culture based on heightened technology awareness, financial stability, improved production methods and better markets penetration globally.

Considering intricate link between IPR & Healthcare sector along with intensification of globalized trade; implementation & harmonization of patent law worldwide has become an important goal of I.P regime and India need to strike a balance between IPR and Healthcare Sector to overcome the problems faced in affordable and accessible quality healthcare.
