New Delhi, October 18, 2019: ISF College of Pharmacy has organized a two day 54th Annual Conference of Indian Hospital Pharmacists’ Association (IHPA) on the theme “Safe and Effective Medicines for All”on 13th And 14th September 2019 at College campus, Moga, Punjab. Nearly 800 participants were present from all over India. This conference that had evolved to become surely the most important national conference dedicated to bring awareness among Pharma Students about Role of Pharmacists in Healthcare. It has accompanied the nationwide evolution to raise the status and outlook of those who are engaged in the hospital pharmacy.
The chief guest for the event was Prof. Raghuram Rao Akkinepally, Director, NIPER S.A.S. Nagar (Mohali) and the various dignitaries present during the inaugural ceremony are Dr. Y.K. Gupta, Director, AIIMS, Bhopal; Dr. Deepak Haldankar, President, Technical, Akums Drugs and Pharmaceuticals, Haridwar; Dr. S.L. Nasa, president, IHPA; Mr. R. A. Gupta, Vice President, IHPA, Mr. Pankaj Bector, General Secretary, IHPA; Mr. Jagjot Singh Sidhu, PCI Member; Dr. N. Udupa, Research Director, Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Manipal; Mr. Praveen Garg, Chairman, ISF College of Pharmacy; Dr. G. D. Gupta, Director, ISF College of Pharmacy, Dr. R.K. Narang, Vice Principal, ISF College of Pharmacy, Dr. Gaurav Goyal, Organizing Secretary, IHPA. Prof. Rao spoke about the safety and efficacy of medicines. He discussed that the research work should be focused on current societal problems.
On the first day, three oral and poster presentations were conducted. In oral session, lectures were delivered by the famous personalities of pharma world. Dr. Rishi Jain, Vice President, Medical, Clinical, Regulatory Affairs & Pharmacovigilance, India & ROW, Wockhardt Pharmaceuticals delivered a lecture on Artificial Intelligence in the world of Drug Discovery & Development. The lecture was chaired by Dr. Y. K. Gupta. After this Professor Pradeep R. Vavia, Dean (Academic), Department of Pharmaceutics, Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai delivered a lecture on Cyclodextrins: Pharmaceutical Applications. His talk emphasized on the case studies associated with pharmaceutical applications of the drug regarding its safety and efficacy. This lecture was chaired by Dr. Anil Kumar, University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Panjab University, Chandigarh, In continuation, Dr N. Udupa, Professor and Research Director, Manipal University, Karnataka delivered a lecture on Hurdles and opportunities in Drug Discovery, Drug Delivery and Clinical Research, which was chaired by Dr. Subheet Jain, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar. Dr. Udupa gave example of currently improved Lab models that have made the clinical trials less cumbersome.
On first day, students had presented their work during poster sessionsin various subjects, Pharmaceutics, Pharmacology & toxicology, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Analysis & Quality Assurance, Pharmacognosy and Hospital pharmacy with pharmacy practice.
An open discussion was made between participants and the panel on various issues related to safety and efficacy of drugs. The event was made interesting by an online pharma quiz, Kahoot and the day was ended with a cultural event note.
On the second day, three oral lectures were organized. The first speaker for second day was Dr. Himanshu Baweja, Consultant at WHO-Country Office. He delivered a lecture on “Importance of Pharmacovigilance on Safety of Drugs” in which he told about the new scope of Pharmacovigilance Program is being expanded to cover Haemovigilance (Adverse Reactions with Blood transfusion). His lecture was chaired by Dr. Y. K Gupta. After that Dr. Sandeep Kaushal is Assistant Dean Academics, Professor and Head, Department of Pharmacology at Dayanand Medical College and Hospital, Ludhiana delivered a lecture on “Safety and efficacy of medicines for all: Antibiotics”.
On the same day, Prof.(Dr.) Y.K.Gupta Former Head, Dept. of Pharmacology AIIMS, New Delhi and Shri. S.L.Nasa President, IHPA shared their views on the Safety and Efficacy of Medicines for all.The whole event ended with the Valedictory function and Award Distribution.
