Kiehl’s offers expert repair for senstive skin with new dermatologist solutions™ Centella senstive facial cleanser& cica-cream

New Delhi,, March 12, 2019: With reports of skin sensitivity on the rise, the demand for sensitive skincare products is at an all-time high. In the UK, for instance, 62% of consumers report  having skin that is sensitive, reactive, irritable or intolerant.[1]To help address this concern, Kiehl’s chemists are proud to introduce thenew dynamic duo for sensitive skin:a mild facial conditioning cleanser and an ultimate moisture-barrier repairing cica-cream.Both new products, formulated with Centella Asiatica-derived active ingredients, are dermatologist tested for suitability on 100% self-perceived sensitive skin subjects.

Formulated with CentellaAsiatica Extract, the pH-balanced, non-stripping Centella Sensitive Facial Cleanser removes dirt, oil and impurities while hydrating, soothing and strengthening the skin barrier. With a lightweight lotion architecture, the cleanser is designed to leave skin feeling clean, comfortable, and soft all day.The gentle cleanser can be applied to dry skin and rinsed off or simply removed with a cotton pad. This non-comedogenic cleanser is formulated free of alcohol, dyes, fragrance, surfactants, and soap.

New hypoallergenicCentella Sensitive Cica-Cream for sensitive skinis clinically-demonstrated[2]to help repair the moisture barrier of compromised skin and help restore skin’s healthy appearance. This cream has been clinically demonstrated to provide 48-hour hydration and reduce the look of redness and dry fine lines after just 3 days of use. Formulated with D-Panthenol and Madecassoside, the facial moisturizer helps to avoid discomfort common to skin that is prone to dryness or sensitivity.

“We heard an increasing need from our customers for a more delicate cleanser and moisturizer built for sensitive skin” expressed Roberta Weiss, Kiehl’s Head of Product Innovation. “Of course,Kiehl’s products are always formulated to be appropriate for customers with sensitive skin. However, with our new Centella Sensitive Facial Cleanser and Cica-Cream, specially designed for those with sensitive skin, we chose to even further elevate our ingredient selection criteria and formula study designs.”

FORMULATING FOR SENSITIVE SKIN

Skin sensitivity is commonly associated with compromised skin barrier function and exacerbated by exposure to environmental variations such as cold, wind & sun pollution. Visible signs of sensitive skin include dryness, redness, and stinging after applying cosmetic products.

Based on these factors, Kiehl’s chemists take the following factors into account when formulating for consumers with sensitive skin:

  1. Only include the necessary ingredients

When formulating for sensitive skin, it’s important to include only the necessary ingredients at the right concentration. Particularly notable for its formula efficiency, Kiehl’sCentella Sensitive Facial Cleanser contains only 10 ingredients, plus water.

Each ingredient used in the Centella Sensitive collection was selected based on its safety profile and reviewed for compatibility with sensitive skin. Thecica-cream formula was tested around the world on a panel with 300 subjects, all with self-perceived sensitive skin, to help confirm a minimized allergy risk and secure a hypoallergenic claim, making the formula unlikely to cause a skin reaction.

  1. Consider suitable textures and usage
    1. With sensitive skin, excess rubbing when applying products can cause additional discomfort. For this reason, Kiehl’s focused on the application experience in both Centella Sensitive products. The cleanser is unique in that it can be rinsed off or simply wiped off with a tissue, leaving skin feeling conditioned all day. The rich cream formula applies evenly with no excess rubbing, absorbing quickly without leaving skin feeling sticky.

“In caring for sensitive skin, it is important to look for non-abrasive formulas that help repair and strengthen skin’s barrier function,” stated Meghan O’Brien, Kiehl’s Consulting Dermatologist. “Additionally, those with sensitive skin should use products, like Kiehl’sCentella Sensitive collection, free of ingredients that are known to be potential skin irritants or potential allergens.”

KEY INGREDIENTS

In the Facial Cleanser:

CentellaAsiatica Extract

A key ingredient in the Facial Cleanser, the CentellaAsiatica plant is sourced, extracted and purified to obtain a potent blend of asiatiocide, Asiatic acid and Madecassic acid. Known as “tiger herb”, legend has it that tigers in Asia would rub their wounds against it for soothing and healing, this ancient medicinal plant has been traditionally used for its skin-soothing properties for hundreds of years. In the cleanser, it is blended with other carefully selected ingredients to strengthen skin and help minimize signs of irritation and discomfort.

In the Cica Cream:

Madecassosidefrom CentellaAsiatica

Sustainably sourced mainly from the AlaotraMangoro region of Madagascar, Madecassoside is a concentrated extract of CentellaAsiatica. In addition to soothing, it can be used in skincare products that help maintain moisture levels and skin quality. This formula renews the look of skin and improves overall texture.

D-Panthenol

D-Panthenol is a biologically stable form of vitamin B5. When applied topically, vitamin B5 is often used to serve three key functions: reinforce the skin barrier, hydrate, and soothe.
