LASER World of PHOTONICS INDIA 2013 brings the € 300 billion industry on a common platform

LASER World of PHOTONICS INDIA 2013, the second edition of the successful Indian version of the LASER World of PHOTONICS network, organised by Messe München International (MMI) – India saw a spectacular opening on 12thNovember, 2013 at the Bombay Convention and Exhibition Centre, Goregaon. The trade show & conference was inaugurated by Dr. Niloufer Shroff, Scientist, Head of Department – EMCD Division, DeitY, Government of India, Mr. Michael Siebert, Honourable Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany, Dr. Bishnu Pal, Professor, IIT Delhi & President, Optical Society of India and other dignitaries with a traditional lamp lighting ceremony.

Mr Michael Seibert, Hon’able Consul General, Germany said, “Germany, very early on recognised that the markets for the LASER & Photonics industry is a constantly growing market worldwide, estimated to reach € 650 billion by 2020. Currently the market is close to € 300 billion. The market trend is very positively inclined towards Asia, in production as well as in buying capacity. While Germany has close to 30 billion Euros of production of LASER technologies for medical technologies, life sciences, optical lasers, etc. Trade with India is growing exponentially too by about 20% a year with almost € 350 million exports from Germany to the country. The three day event has strong support not only from Industry associationsIndian Laser Association (ILA) and the Optical Society of India (OSI), but also from the Government of India; Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, Department of Electronics & Information Technology (DEITY) and Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME). The show has over 110 exhibitors from 15 countries and expects over 3500 visitors from different application industries during the course of the event.

Industry experts and visitors from the domains of Automobile & Auto Ancillary, Telecommunications, Electronics, Renewable energy, Medical Fraternity, Diamond and Jewellery Processors, were attracted to this perfect platform for the LASER technology industries.

This edition of the event witnessed an impressive line-up of the key players from the industry, like TRUMPF India, IPG Photonics, Laser Science, Sahajanand Laser Technology Ltd., Anatech Instruments, Ametek Precitec, etc that showcased technologies ranging from LASERS for automotive sector to medical sciences, from the diamond industry to imaging and from optical communications to spectroscopy. The show witnessed leaders in the sphere of LASER technologies from International country Pavilions like Germany, UK, Japan, China and European Photonics Industry Consortium (EPIC) coming together on a common platform to discuss the opportunities and challenges for this fast growing sector.

 

The event was fuelled by an extensive conference programme, and is one-of-its-kind platform for exchange of knowledge and ideas in this niche sector. The symposium included topics Light Matter Interaction and Laser Ablation; Water Assisted Laser Material Processing, etcwith eminent industry leaders as well as international speakers, giving expert insights into the latest research developments in the industry.
