Maiya Multi Speciality Hospital Performs Its First Bilateral Robotic Knee Replacement on 74-Year-Old Patient

Bengaluru, May 21, 2026: Maiya Multi Speciality Hospital has successfully performed its first Bilateral Robotic Total Knee Replacement (Robotic TKR) on Mrs. Rukumini, a 74-year-old patient, marking a significant milestone in the hospital’s journey towards advanced orthopaedic care.

Mrs. Rukumini had been suffering from severe pain in both knees for several years, which had progressively limited her mobility and made everyday activities such as walking, climbing stairs, and standing increasingly difficult.

After a detailed clinical evaluation and personalised treatment planning, the medical team opted for a Right and Left Robotic Total Knee Replacement, performed in two stages. The staged approach ensured better recovery and patient comfort.

The procedure was led by Dr. Manohar Rao H.R., Senior Orthopaedic Surgeon.
” Robotic knee replacement allows us to achieve a high level of precision and accurate alignment, which directly impacts recovery and long-term outcomes. In bilateral cases, careful planning and execution are essential. Our focus is always on helping patients regain mobility and return to their daily lives with confidence,” he said.

Robotic-assisted knee replacement offers several advantages, including improved implant positioning, minimal damage to surrounding tissues, reduced post-operative pain, and faster rehabilitation. These benefits are particularly important for elderly patients, enabling a smoother and more comfortable recovery process.

Following the surgery, Mrs. Rukumini responded well to treatment and showed steady progress under guided physiotherapy and post-operative care. She was discharged in stable condition and is now able to move with greater ease and confidence.

“I had been in pain for years and had almost accepted it as part of my life. Now I feel much better and more confident. I can move more freely, and I am grateful to the doctors and the entire hospital team,” said Mrs. Rukumini.

The hospital emphasized that the success of the procedure was supported by a comprehensive care approach, including pre-surgical counselling, personalized planning, attentive nursing care, structured physiotherapy, and continuous patient support throughout recovery.

This achievement reinforces Maiya Multi Specialty Hospital’s commitment to integrating advanced medical technology with patient-centric care and bringing innovative orthopedic solutions to patients in Bengaluru.

At Maiya, we don’t just treat patients. We help them move better, heal better, and live better.
