First “initiative today to create mass awareness on importance of eyes to all on the occasion of 150th

anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. This initiative will continue for one week till 10th October, World sight day. MaxiVision took up this initiative as part of its social responsibility towards the society to create awareness and mark “World Sight Day” which is observed every year on second Thursday in the month of October. World Sight Day is observed to create global attention on blindness, vision impairment, universal eye health, right to sight and fighting vision problems at old age. As part of the program week long free eye checkups / screenings are done for all senior citizens above 50 years of age.

Speaking on the launch of “Vision first initiative”, Dr.Kasu Prasad Reddy  Founder, MaxiVision Super Specialty Eye Hospital said that there are around 8.8 million blind people in India and the number expected to grow if the awareness is not created as per reports. Most of them can be prevented if the checkups are done on regular basis.Timely treatment can avoid blindness to a larger extent. Vision problems are more prevalent in elderly people and they are more likely to get vision defects as the age grows.

World Sight Day is not just a one day event to draw people attention but it is an initiative which needs more attentiveness to create mass awareness on long standing.
