Metropolis Healthcare study reveals average 8.73% cancer positivity

Three year results based on 1,54,586 tissue samples tested from cities across India

Mumbai, February 05, 2017: Metropolis Healthcare Ltd, a leading player in pathology services that specializes in cancer testing today released data points that showed that 8.73% of the over 1.5 Lakh tissue sample cases tested across multiple cities in India were positive for different types of cancer. The research is based on tissue samples submitted by patients across age groups conducted from year 2013 to 2015.

Of the various cancers detected, cancers of breast, oral cavity, gastrointestinal and hepato-billiary tract and cervix emerged as a dominant and more commonly occurring in recent times. These are followed by cancers of prostate, urinary bladder, hemato-lymphoid and lung which show increase in the trend over the period of three years.

The samples tested and observed were from Ahmedabad, Chennai, Delhi, Pune, Guwahati, Indore, Mumbai and Bangalore. A closer study of the 3-year data revealed that urban cities have demonstrated an upward trend in the number of overall cancer positivity.
