Multinational chain of diagnostic centres Metropolis Healthcare Ltd, which recently set up shop in Mauritius, now plans to expand further to Tanzania, Ethiopia, Zambia and Nigeria in Africa.

The Mumbai-based company is all set to open a diagnostic centre in Ghana, too, Ameera Shah, Managing Director and CEO, told Business Line on Wednesday. It had set up a centre in Kenya and South Africa in recent past. \

Metropolis Healthcare currently has over 85 diagnostic centres and more than 600 sample collection centres across South Asia, West Asia and Africa. “We would be opening 15-17 new centres each year. In 2014-15, we would focus on Tier-II and III towns and cities and invest about Rs 25 crore on these centres.”

About 50 lakh patients visit various Metropolis diagnostic centres in India and abroad annually, she said, adding the company, which provides global quality at Indian prices, conducts around 1.5 crore tests every year.

The company is expecting to increase its turnover by 25-30% in 2014-15 over the current year’s Rs 500 crore.

Ahmedabad February 28, 2014:- Metropolis Healthcare had launched its first pathology laboratory in 2002 and has evolved into a fully-integrated multinational chain of diagnostic centres each of which is equipped to conduct about 200 tests, she added.

Rising instances of lifestyle diseases and expansion of technology have fuelled the growth of this sector, Shah said.

The business model is now expanding beyond diagnostic tests to offering wellness solutions including services like dentistry and nutritional guidance under one roof.- Business Line
